As a former graduate of CCHS, I have been saying for years, build a new CCHS somewhere far away from center city. It was fine 50 years ago when most of us walked to CCHS but it is outright dangerous. For the tuition and all the fund drives they have someone can come up with the bucks to build a new school.

it's a shame these young people have to witness someone laying in the street dead. that can be horrific for them. now, they will probably be having nightmares about this man.

The MC shouldn't bother printing this story because murders in A-town are becoming as common as the sun rising every day. A real story to print would be a day when there are no senseless murders in the city. It's CRAZY!

were you born ignorant and racist, or did you learn that in school? |

Allentown is becoming the "Killing Fields" like Cambodia. What a joke has to be who or what is running the city, it's sister city rebounded after their number one employer left.

I agree with THE TRUTH! Good one! That's so true.

build a new school...use the land you bought years ago "CCHS"

Anyone notice that it says they made an arrest but no mention of how they chose that person? Emphasis in the article seems to be on how quickly arrests are now being made....not on whether or not they are actually arresting the person who committed the crime.

six down - fourteen to go

You may have forgotten Bishop Cullen's "survey" a few years ago. Moving the school had been considered, until the results of the "survey" indicated overwhelming support to keep CCHS in its current crime- and drug-infested location. And this at a time when United Wesleyan College had recently shut down its East Allentown campus (around Plymouth St.), making a complete school-appropriate plant readily available. So much for "protecting God's children." |

Where is Franklin Elementary? Since they make reference to it twice in the article. Who edits this stuff?

Oh good. A former graduate. Did they revoke your diploma? |

I respectfully disagree. I think there is something to be gained from tradition, but would argue that ACC needs to upgrade its campus. With this in mind, City of Allentown should take by eminent domain the housing stock that is still left from 4th and West Chew to 4th and West Gordon and from 4th Street to Jordan Creek. They should then sell this land to D. of Allentown so that ACC can have a self contained campus from Jordan Creek to 4th Street and from Gordon to Chew Street. Allentown should also then acquire the wharehouse on corner of American Parkway and West Linden (NW corner) and add additional park space there. This accomplishes housing density reduction, while also creating a signficant parcel for ACC to expand. The acquisition of the land on Linden Street support a field large enough for field hockey and general community park along Jordan Meadows. Furthermore, City of Allentown should acquire the last remaining homes on 5th & Gordon to 4th & Gordon and from 5th & Chew to 4th & Chew on what has become the Sacred Heart Hospital campus. This again reduce housing density and increase land availability for a self contained Sacred Heart Hospital Campus. The fundamental problem with Allentown is deteriorating housing stock which attract lower per capita income. By removing this housing stock, while simultaneously allows institution to grow to stay viable and competitive would make this neighborhood stronger. Please see the revitatilization of University City in Philadelphia because of the coordination between UPenn, Drexel and City of Philadelphia. It turned what once was a bleek neighborhood into a vibrant community that now stretches from Spring Garden down to South Street and from 30th Street to signs of significant improvement as far west as 42nd Street. This was dramatic makeover of a nearly 4 square mile area. The same thing could be achieved with leveraging these two existing institutions in downtown Allentown. If done correctly, I can see a resurgence of 4th Street from 4th & Union to 4th & Gordon. |

Funny stuff. |

It used to be on 14th street between Turner and Chew. It was torn down in 1967. |

So was this a random robbery or did the attacker know the victim?

Still a decent size playground there. I know I used to go up there in the early 1970s. |

Fourth homicide in May and still the mayor refuses a call for action, a march for peace. Mayor continues to claim beer houses and pubs are the way to go to attract visitors to this once grand city.

I agree.I even hate going to the sacred heart hospital to visit my uncle. It is a scary area. |
