Goodland is more fun than a barrel of monkeys. Well, what I really mean to say is more fun than a traveling polar bear, a mounted deer head, a celebrity parrot and artists perched on a canal bank.

Fresh is exactly the word for the new and improved Marker 8.5, owned by the Head Chef Michael Duncan and his wife Laura.

The first-ever Walker's Marine Silver King Classic will be held at Coon Key Marina, 604 E. Palm Ave., in Goodland on Saturday, April 20, from 8 a.m.-5 p.m. Reception and awards follow at 6 p.m. Organizers hope the tourney becomes an annual event.

Spend an hour in the company of Victor Brown as he hand washes and details high-end cars at the Chevron station, and at least five passing drivers are bound to lean out of their windows and catch his attention with a boisterous "Hey, Victor." Brown retaliates equally boisterously, but calls each of the drivers by name.

Human remains found in May 2009 near Goodland have been identified as those of a Miami area man, according to the Collier County Sheriff's Office.
