Alex John Gonzales, Delano Joint Union High School's band director of Delano High School and Cesar E. Chavez High School in Delano, was honored before 300 other educators during the annual Kern County Teachers of the Year awards Tuesday night at the Bakersfield Museum of Art in Bakersfield.

Vivian Ramirez -- the woman accused of causing a seven-car crash that left three people dead near King City last year -- pleaded guilty to vehicular manslaughter with gross negligence on Wednesday.

Two Gonzales High School students were arrested Monday on suspicion of lighting their school on fire and causing $1.5 million in damage to the school's gymnasium.
