Students of the Month Honored
A pair of students from Alton High were honored last week by the Alton/Godfrey Rotary Club. Sophia Macias and Matthew Hopkins were named the Students of the Month for September and were formally presented with awards on September 8th at the Banquet Center Alton Sports Tap.
Three Businesses Cited During Compliance Check
Three businesses in Godfrey were cited during a recent compliance check by the Madison County Sheriff's Office. According to a report issued by the office Friday, Melville Dairy, Roper's Regal Beagle and Casey's General Store on West Delmar were each cited for unlawful sale of an alcoholic liquor to a minor.

GACA Season Kicks Off Sunday
The Greater Alton Concert Association is set to kick off its 74th season one week from today with country artist Collin Raye. Raye has 24 top ten records, 16 #1 hits and been a 10-time "Male Vocalist of the Year" nominee.

Veterans Resource Fair at Mall
Alton Square Mall is the host site of a special military and veterans appreciation day sponsored by Rotary Clubs from Alton-Godfrey, Bethalto, East Alton, Granite City, Riverbend and Wood River on Saturday. The event will include access to local resources for veterans and their families, along with entertainment, games and children's activities.
Small Fire at Godfrey Home
Godfrey firefighters responded to a small fire in a kitchen on Wednesday at a home on Piasa Trail. Fire crews were called to the residence around 10:30am yesterday with about a dozen on duty and volunteer firefighters on the scene.

MS Bike Ride Coming to Godfrey
After its 30th anniversary ride last weekend, the Bike MS Gateway Getaway Ride has announced it will be leaving Columbia, Missouri and coming to Godfrey. The two-day ride will start and finish both days at Lewis & Clark Community College in Godfrey.

Rotary Recognizes Local Entrepreneur
The Alton / Godfrey Rotary Club has created a new award to recognize someone who has done well for themselves and returned to the area. The Hometown Star Award was presented for the first time Monday night to a local filmmaker who has been a frequent guest on The Big Z Michael Gebben.
Fire at Godfrey Home
Godfrey firefighters responded to a basement fire at a home in the 3300 block of Morkel Drive in Godfrey on Saturday evening. No one was injured in the blaze, but there was significant damage in the basement area and heavy smoke throughout the home.

Child Porn Charges for Godfrey Man
A Godfrey man has been charged with four counts of Child Pornography after investigators with the Madison County Sheriffs Department were made aware of his alleged activity. 33-year-old David J. Von Bergen was taken into custody last Friday following a search of his home in the 7,700 block of Humbert Road.

Historical Musical Festival Tomorrow
The Lewis and Clark State Historic Site in Hartford will be teeming with music tomorrow. The 12th annual music festival is scheduled from 10am to 4pm, and will feature performers at various locations around the 60-acre site playing traditional music.
Piasa Hills Work Continues
The Village of Godfrey will wrap up repair of the streets in Piasa Hills following the massive infrastructure upgrade that brought sewer service to the area. The first third of the repair project was completed in 2011, and the final third is should be finished over the next several months.

Few Problems with Recent Rains
Now about a year old, the Wood River sewer separation project proves to have been a successful one, with no significant flooding to report after a spring and summer full of heavy rains. In fact, there have been relatively few reports of problems with the downpours of recent months.
Meeting on Road Projects Monday
As the Illinois Department of Transportation puts together its plan for which road projects receive priority, it is looking for your opinion. There are several projects in the pipeline with local interest, including the so-called Alton-Godfrey Connector and the various bypasses and bridges along Corridor 67. You can share your opinions on these and other projects Monday at a meeting at IDOT Headquarters in Collinsville.
