Fire destroys Glendon landmark
A predawn fire gutted the Old Stone Inn in Glendon, displacing nine residents and destroying a building that had stood as a landmark in the tiny borough for more than 200 years.
The building -- at 299 Main St. -- withstood three other fires since 1979, but none as devastating as Sunday's, which ripped a gaping hole in the roof, substantially damaged the exterior and caused most of the second floor to collapse.
Most recently, the building was the center of a dispute between borough officials and the owner over garbage and debris that littered the property. In April, a Northampton County judge ordered the owner, Mario Russo, to clean up or face serious fines.

Bethlehem Twp. eyed for work-release site
Northampton County hopes to build a $10 million work-release facility for nonviolent inmates with drug and alcohol problems on the site of a vacant Fritch Inc. warehouse in Bethlehem Township .
County Executive John Stoffa describes it as an innovative rehabilitation center for up to 200 men that would offer them the kind of treatment they need to stay out of the county's prison system.
''This is not a prison, it's a treatment facility,'' Stoffa said. ''We run a department of corrections but, really, we don't correct anyone -- we just warehouse them. This facility is a complete change in that philosophy.'' Read more
