Glenarden will be facing a runoff election for mayor in the next 30 days, since none of the candidates garnered 50 percent of the vote, as required by the city charter.

The group, which is coordinating the design and construction of a veteran memorial in the city, is raising money to help pay for the construction and maintenance of the memorial once it has been built, said committee chairwoman Butler described the fundraiser as a “dance benefit,” which will run from 10 p.m. until 2 a.m. Butler said ... Joseph L. Kitchen Jr., who won election in February as president of the Young Democrats of Maryland, has emerged as an up-and-coming political activist in Prince George's County, where he lives, and in the state capital in Annapolis.

Four candidates - including current and former council members and a city employee - will face off to become Glenarden's next mayor in the city's May 6 election.
