The historic Park Theatre Mall in the heart of downtown Estes Park was destroyed by flames Monday morning.

Huge swirls of smoke filled the sky and moved up Elkhorn Avenue on Monday morning as several fire crews fought flames that ravaged the historic Park Theatre Mall.

A fire destroyed a major landmark in downtown Estes Park Monday morning. The fire apparently began in the Park Theater Mall and flames and smoke were shooting above the building at daybreak.

Recent events, including two tanker trucks landing in the Poudre River and a forest fire approaching homes near Glen Haven, serve as a reminder of some of the hazards that exist for residents throughout Larimer County.

The U.S. Forest Service said this afternoon that the Dunraven fire near Glen Haven is almost twice the size originally estimated.

Emergency evacuations of homes near Glen Haven are underway this afternoon because of a forest fire a mile west of the hamlet of 350 year-round residents.
