Gilmer City Council acts on ambulance building

The Gilmer City Council on Tuesday approved plans and specifications to seek bids on constructing a building which the ETMC medical system will lease to house its ambulances. With ETMC Gilmer scheduled to cease the hospital portion of its operations here after Oct. 31, Mayor R.D. Cross noted that "We need the ambulance service and the emergency room," which will remain open.

Upshur County Grand Jury returns 29 indictments

The Upshur County Grand Jury returned 29 indictments, 10 of them sealed, and passed one case Thursday, said District Attorney Billy Byrd. Defendants, charges, and bond information in the open indictments were as follows, Byrd's office said: Bobby Brian Burnette, 47, of Big Sandy, assault - family violence on May 1. He remained in county jail on other charges.

Gilmer City Council votes against interlocal agreement

The Gilmer City CouncilTuesday voted not to authorize the development of an interlocal agreement with neighboring cities to obtain street improvements. City Manager Jeff Ellington recommended against entering the agreement, conceding that doing so might save money, but citing what he considered several drawbacks to the idea.
