letter from Rahall,

wvdiver said in the Gilbert Forum:

"Thank you for contacting me with you comments about my endorsement of Senator Barack Obama to be the next President of the United States. I greatly appreciate hearing the thoughts of all of my constituents on this issue. Your thoughts in particular have provided great food for thought. Thank you for being so open and honest with me. You may be interested to know that as a Superdelegate, just like all other Members of Congress, my role in the presidential nominating process is to support the candidate who I believe is the strongest for our Party and for our Nation. This role is contrasted with that of pledged delegated who represent the direct vote of the people in the primary process. This is supported by long-time political scientist at West Virginia Wesleyan College, Robert Rupp. According to Dr. Rupp, "The job description of the superdelegate is you do what's best for the party and nation." For your reference, I have enclosed Dr. Rupp's comments in an article on this subject. Again, thank you for contacting me, May God richly bless your family and you and heal our Nation. Please feel free to call upon me anytime that I may try to be of assistance. Signed, By Nich J. Rahall, II " Looks like our elected officials think the people of WV aren't smart enough to decide what we think is best for our country and need someone to make our decisions for us. We elect people to be our voice but what we get is their voice. I for one will be making a decision what I think is best for our country in Nov. and it won't be Rahall or Obama.

Byrd endorses Obama for president

Byrd's support comes almost a week after the Illinois senator's 41-point loss to Hillary Rodham Clinton in the longtime lawmaker's home state of West Virginia. Byrd said he had no intention of getting involved while his state was in the midst of a primary. ''But the stakes this November could not be higher,'' he said in a written statement. Byrd said Obama has the qualities to end the Iraq war, which he has strongly opposed. ''I believe that Barack Obama is a shining young statesman, who possesses the personal temperament and courage necessary to extricate our country from this costly misadventure in Iraq, and to lead our nation at this challenging time in history,'' Read more @ www.loganbanner.com

I hope everyone knows that two our representatives (Rahall and Rockefeller) in Washington are supporting Obama. If everyone would email them at these addresses: http://rockefeller.senate.gov/contact/email.cfm http://www.rahall.house.gov/index.php?option=com_content&task=view&id=521&Itemid=162 we can send them a message that they should represent the people of WV. I already have and hope more will.

Truck Wrecked at Justice Bridge

Truck overturns near county line By JESSICA HATFIELD Gilbert Bureau Published: Tuesday, May 13, 2008 8:04 AM CDT GILBERT — A truck carrying Ammonium Nitrate and diesel fuel overturned Monday evening in the Justice area. The truck was traveling along U.S. Route 52 on the Wyoming and Mingo County line preparing to cross the Justice Bridge at approximately 4:15 p.m. when the driver lost control. Emergency crews from Stafford EMS and the Gilbert and Hanover Volunteer Fire Departments responded to the scene. The driver, Jeffrey Clayton Stevens II, 22, of Pecks Mill in Logan County was an employee of Austin Powder Company, which is headquartered in Mount Hope. Stevens was extricated from the vehicle and rushed to Gilbert High School’s football field where he required a HealthNet flight to Charleston Area Medical Center’s general division. Mingo County Sheriff’s Deputy R.B. Dotson investigated the accident and said Steven’s injuries were serious, but not life-threatening. Dotson said speed looks like it is a likely factor in the accident’s cause, but at this time it is still under investigation. There were concerns of the chemical and fuel spilling into the Guyandotte River, but there have been no official reports that any environmental damage was done. At this time there is no word on Stevens’ condition.

No. 2 Lions coast past Billies in section

Man High School boys’ coach Jimmy Justice knew it was going to be tough against Gilbert on Tuesday night in the Class A sectional tourney. Not only were the Hillbillies playing the No. 2-ranked Lions, the defending sectional champs, Man was also playing without leading scorer Cory Spence. Spence injured his ankle in last Saturday’s game at Burch and was unable to go. The Lions then made matters worse by concentrating on Man’s second-leading scorer, Travis Hurley. The Lions held Hurley scoreless for the entire game and rolled to a 65-44 win over Man at the Man Memorial Fieldhouse.
