She doesn't get her hands greasy under the hood of a car or fix people's hair.

Dave Kite says he's restoring an 1890s electric automobile, so it's disconcerting to enter his shop and find -- amid the steroidal muscle cars and the one-of-a-kind hearse and various incarnations of your father's Oldsmobile -- a black wooden box hardly bigger than a Radio Flyer wagon.
It's the Electrobat -- or as much of the Electrobat as Kite and his employer, Antique and Classic Restorations of Germansville , were asked to restore on behalf of Allentown 's America on Wheels Transportation Museum. The rest of it -- frame and wheels -- is at the Front Street museum, where it will be assembled and put on display sometime before the April 7 opening. Read more

This little piggy went to the Farm Show
Off the sprawling exposition areas of the Pennsylvania Farm Show, beyond the booths selling camouflage luggage sets and $23,000 compact tractors, the gritty, unfiltered heart of the state's annual agricultural showcase beats, literally, in the slightly smaller, barn-like rooms with vaguely academic sounding names.
It is in places called West Hall and and North Hall, where the livestock exhibitors keep their sheep, goats, cattle and pigs in the gray temporary aluminum enclosures lined with transplanted bits of farm life, clumps of earth, sawdust, straw and animal feed. Read more

A fall trip to farms not far off
The gates of Venture Farms weren't set to open until 1 p.m. Sunday, but Gail Christman, who helps runs the 110-acre horse farm, walked outside in the brilliant morning sunshine just after 11:30 and saw dozens of visitors looking for the farm's hayrides, trail rides and tours.
''I just told them they had to wait. We needed time to get ready,'' said Christman, who runs the farm near Germansville, Heidelberg Township, with her husband, Raymond, and a partner, Carol Miller.
The farm on a gentle hillside with a stunning view of the Blue Mountain and Bake Oven Knob was one of 20 showcase farms that agreed to be part of the Lehigh County Cooperative Extension Service's annual Open Gate Farm Tour, which has been a staple of Lehigh Valley autumns for more than 35 years. Will Lehigh potatoes ever become as famous as Vidalia onions, Big Boy tomatoes, Silver Queen corn or Gala apples?
The fate and fame of this new potato variety that carries ''our'' name rests in your hands, now that the first commercial-sized crop is being dug right here on Lehigh Valley farms.
After all, if Lehigh Valley cooks aren't willing to take them and bake them, mash them, boil them and fry them, they're certainly not going to make it in other places where the name isn't part of the mystique. Read more
