City holds firm on classroom trailer rules

A space-starved local school's installation of two modular units this year has highlighted Gastonia's increased focus on keeping up appearances. The classroom trailers now in use behind Piedmont Community Charter School's Secondary Campus aren't currently up to code, due to their visible aluminum exterior.

Officer responding to call at time of wreck

Police say an officer was responding to a breaking and entering call when his car may have hydroplaned and crashed into a tree late Thursday afternoon. Cain was en route to a breaking and entering that was in progress when the wreck occurred around 5:43 p.m. Thursday along West Airline Avenue at North Kings Street, according to police spokeswoman Donna Lahser.

Anonymous donor covers cremation expenses for needy family

An anonymous donor paid the cremation cost for the loved one of a Mount Holly family after reading about his story in The Gazette . "This person called, paid the bill and wanted to remain anonymous," said Tammy Greene, one of the owners of Greene Funeral Service, on Thursday.
