Vehicle veers off highway, plummets down riverbank
A small SUV drifted off the highway about three miles north of Gasquet on Sunday afternoon, careered about 50 feet down the side of a steep incline and landed in a crumpled heap by the side of the river.

Landowners upset over county vote on tree removal
The Del Norte County Board of Supervisors is poised to approve a project during today's meeting to remove trees in the vicinity of Ward Field airport in Gasquet, surprising private landowners who thought the project was put on hold.
Six Rivers National Forest fire use restrictions effective through Nov. 1
According to a press release, "human caused fires, which range from escaped campfires, careless smokers, equipment use, vehicle exhaust, catalytic converters, or children playing with matches, are preventable," and "initiating fire use restrictions will help minimize the potential of wildland fire starts."
Board objects to forest road plan
For nearly nine years, Six Rivers National Forest has been working to take stock of all roads on the Smith River National Recreation Area/Gasquet Ranger District, decide the fate of each of those routes, and then implement those decisions, meaning ripping out some old roads and adopting others into the transportation system.
Passenger dies after car flips on U.S. Highway 199
A passenger in a Saturn car was killed on Tuesday after the vehicle flipped and collided into a pickup truck on U.S. Highway 199 near Gasquet, according to the California Highway Patrol.
