Guest View: A war without heroes
QUICK: Name someone who's famous for nothing. I'll bet that was easy. Now, here's a bigger challenge: Name someone who has served in Iraq or Afghanistan.

Quang Pham's congressional campaign website is now up!
Quang X. Pham appears to be serious about running for Congress - his campaign website is up and running. Pham is challenging Democratic incumbent Loretta Sanchez, who has been in the news a lot of late, but not for good reasons. He is also taking on corrupt GOP Assemblyman Van Tran, who is termed out from the state legislature and running for Congress for the first time.
I am still not sure if Pham is running as a Republican or as an independent. But he is a good guy and at this point I rather support him than Sanchez. But if he runs as a Republican I cannot vote for him as that party won’t allow independents and third party members to vote in their primaries.

Race to replace termed out Assemblyman Van Tran heating up
The race to replace termed out State Assemblyman Van Tran, in the 69th Assembly District, is heating up. My pajaritos are chirping that Garden Grove City Councilman Andrew Do won’t be running after all. But Orange County Board of Education member Long Pham is running - and he has been known to spend a lot of money on his campaigns.
But the GOP favorite will be Costa Mesa Councilman Allan Mansoor. Predictably, he is already getting ripped by the locals. The award-winning “Bubbling Cauldron” blog posted a very long and comprehensive post about Mansoor in April of this year. Here are a few excerpts:

County Clerk-Recorder candidate Hugh Nguyen announces more endorsements
“Former Chief Deputy Recorder Hugh Nguyen, announced today that State Senator Mimi Walters and former State Senator Marian Bergeson have endorsed his campaign for Orange County Clerk Recorder,” according to a press release distributed by Nguyen’s campaign consultant, Scott Hart.
When former State Senator Dick Ackerman announced that he was backing Nguyen, I figured he would round up his friends to back him as well. Nguyen’s campaign is off to a roaring start. His opponent, termed out Supervisor Chris Norby, doesn’t even have a website up yet!

City of Garden Grove blew over $250K fighting medical marijuana
“The City of Garden Grove “has paid out $139,000 in attorney’s fees to medical marijuana advocates, bringing to an end a four-year court battle in which the city fought the return of a patient’s 8 grams in spite of repeated court decisions ordering the city to give his marijuana back,” according to the O.C. Register.
“It’s unfortunate that the city of Garden Grove felt the need to spend $250,000 over marijuana that was worth about $200,” said Joe Elford, chief counsel for Americans for Safe Access, referring to his estimate of what the city has paid. ”They made it extremely difficult for us when they should have returned the marijuana to Mr. Kha three years ago.”
A four year battle? Doesn’t that mean that Supervisor Janet Nguyen was on the Garden Grove City Council when they stupidly decided to embark on this adventure? She also has voted against medical marijuana as a County Supervisor.
