It got shut down because Andy and Saramarie Brenner did not want people knowing that they endorse getting the siren system with a new tax. And where do the couple live? Powell.HMMMMM

If you have an issue, I would email Ken O'Brien. He is the commissioner sitting on the committee. He is also the proponent for the most expensive system. Maybe he can explain his reasons for wanting to conduct business this way. Maybe it is a political payback, who knows.

or give him a call at:

He would appreciate any input you have.

Actually none of them are raising the tax. It takes the voters to agree. And O'Brien was on the committee and was fighting for the most expensive system. He is the logical contact because he has the most information and insight from the committee.

Quit trying to split hairs my man or lady. By voting to put it on the ballot they are endorsing the issue. If the Commissioners had any guts, the Guzzo Powell area folks should have been required to gather signatures for a petition. The Commissioners voted to put it on the ballot without making them do it which means they essentially endorse it. All three of the dilberts will publically endorse it as the Powell area is where the votes are situated for re-election. Since Powell has capital funding problems , the bureaucrats are trying to get others to help pay for their wants and not necessarily the true needs of the County.

It all comes to the voters to make the decision. If it is truly a Powell initiative, then it will fail. They do not have the votes in their city to outweigh the votes of the rest of the county. You are truly a delusional individual. The voters will decide. I am sorry that you cannot handle this concept.

I know exactly what the Commissioners and Guzzo people are doing and that is why I am stating my case and hopefully find some other folks who agree that existing siren systems coupled with reverse 911 are adequate. AND to heck with everyone else in the County contributing to the Powell area siren system. Go buy your own system Powell, Delaware City did, Galena did , etc. so tax your own if you want it and quit trying to sponge off everyone else.

I'm trying to understand why the sirens are needed at this point. We already have the reverse 911 and it seemed to work quite well for us when we had that huge storm last fall. Is there a problem with that system that I don't know about? Even if we had sirens, there would be some areas that would undoubtedly be without coverage, wouldn't there?

The reverse 911 did not work well. Many people did not get calls for up to two hours later than they were supposed to.
But either way, it is up for a vote. So research the information and then vote. You could even try and convince others to see it your way. It is they beauty of democracy. If there is a new tax, voters should choose.

All the wannah babies will say that reverse 911 did not work. What do you expect they want a failsafe system which is only a wish. Sirens do not work. I cannot wait to sue Yosty the toast and Toodler the K-Y Guy if there is a tornado and the sirens don't work.

It isn't about being a baby, it is a fact. The reverse 911 system did not work as it was supposed to. There is no whining here. But there is you being a presumptions asshole thinking that if you are criticizing the reverse 911 that you must be for the sirens. What a moron.

Apparently you do not know how the Reverse 911 system works or how it plays in the overall warning system. Reverse 911 is limited to calling so many thousand people in an hour so in a county with roughly 160,000 people, it will take a while to reach everyone. It's also limited to those who have landline telephones unlike my household. It's also limited to those who are inside their home. Sirens are intended to be heard ONLY by those who are outdoors away from their telephone, tv, or weather radio.

There is no fail-safe system which is why there are so many means for receiving a warning. With weather warning, that's the way it has to be.

Enough with the rhetoric too. It's a county wanting a siren system, not a money-making conspiracy (as much as I know you all would like it to be). It's also only a one year tax levee. Not a blanket sweep raising of the property tax rate from now on. If you don't support it, vote no. Simple as that.

About 2/3 of the residents in Powell and Liberty, who people seem to blame for this, just got a 1/2% increase on their city income taxes courtesy of the voters in the city of Columbus. That brings the total to 2 1/2% for Liberty and 3% for Powell. We did not get a vote. And we're not talking about the nickel and dime crap of a siren levy. That is real money.

Quit complaining. If you want it, vote yes. If you don’t want it, vote no. At least you get a vote.

They did not have to approve the issue being placed on the ballot. They could have sighted the state of the economy as a reason to deny the levy issue. But alas Hanks was too busy laying pipe and Obrien was too busy worrying about FOI requests.

Commissioners could have stopped it from being placed on the ballot. They could have required those that wanted it to go out and obtain the necessary signatures. Why didn't Obrien, Hanks and Thompson do that?? Why because they are all life long lampreys working for taxpayer dollars for the government and have never held a private sector job. Thompson and Obrien think all you have to do is put something on the ballot-money grows on trees . Hanks well he thinks all you have to do is open a BMV office and they will come to make you money. All wrong.

There's going to be a lot of tax levies to vote down this November (this levy, BWSD levy, Sunbury Library levy). Am I missing any others?

Not that any of these have a chance of passing anyway, the Columbus income tax increase was the death knell for these levies.

Westerville has a school levy as well.

The problem is the Statists have figured out how to scare people into voting for tax increases, and combine those people with the voters who won't have to pay anything if the levy passes, and the deck is stacked strongly in favor of tax increases passing.

I moved to Delaware County in part to get away from tax and spend politicians. If Delaware County is developing their own, it is time to start booting them out of the commissioner's seats.

Daily Horoscope for December 29

Gemini

It's easy to become distracted and confused because your mind is wandering about in all sorts of different directions. You're also in a highly impressionable state so will believe almost anything you're told now, whether it's true or a total flight of fancy. Be wary of muddling others by only telling them half the story or letting your imagination fill in any gaps.
