Authorities on Friday were investigating a structure fire in Van Zandt County. About 10 a.m. that day, the Van Zandt County Fire Marshal along with Fruitvale, Grand Saline, Edgewood and South Van Zandt fire departments were dispatched to the 11000 block of U.S. Highway 80 in Fruitvale on a reported structure fire, according to a news release.

A 41-year-old woman, Wendy Harris, died and two children were taken to a Dallas hospital with injuries after an early-morning fire today in Van Zandt county.

Early this morning, a fire to a home in Fruitvale took the life a mother of 4. A 16-year-old boy heroically saved his 14-year-old sister, while two other children of the woman, ages 18 and 20 were able to flee the fire unharmed.

A 40-year-old woman died and her 14-year-old son was seriously burned after fire swept through their rural Van Zandt County home Tuesday morning.
