Police close South Freeport Road after report that man with gun had gone to ex-wife's home

Police from three towns closed South Freeport Road and surrounded a home there Monday afternoon after receiving a report that an apparently suicidal man with a gun refused to emerge from the home of his former wife. Freeport and Yarmouth police were notified Monday morning that a 40-year-old Falmouth man was threatening to kill himself with a gun, and might be headed to the South Freeport Road home, according to Freeport Police Lt.

Despite no-show threat, two men who question constitutionality of IRS appear in federal court

Two Brunswick men indicted on federal tax fraud and conspiracy charges appeared in U.S. District court on Friday, despite claims earlier this week that they would not show up because they do not recognize the court as constitutional. F. William Messier, 70, and David E. Robinson, 75, arrived at court just before 9:30 a.m. Friday, 30 minutes after Messier was scheduled for an initial appearance to answer to charges of failing to file federal tax returns, failing to pay federal income tax on income from rental space on communication towers he owns in Brunswick, and conspiracy to defraud the Internal Revenue Service.
