Island Transit park-and-ride lot planned for Freeland
It won't be long before Island Transit riders will be able to use a new park-and-ride lot just north of Freeland.
The Island Transit Board of Directors recently agreed to move forward with the purchase of about an acre of land on the west side of Hwy. 525 near Bush Point Road. The deal has been in the works for more than a year, Island Transit Director Martha Rose said.
The new lot will mark a pivotal change in service. Rose expects the central location will shave an estimated 20 minutes off travel time for bus routes in the area. The lot is expected to hold up to 70 vehicles.

Washington State Ferries Chief David Moseley is expected to attend two upcoming meetings of regional ferry advisory committees.
The North Sound Ferry Advisory Committee, which addresses issues on the Clinton/Mukilteo route, is set for 6:30-8:30 p.m. Tuesday, June 17 at Freeland Hall, 1515 Shoreview Dr., Freeland.
There is currently no local contact designated for the North Sound Ferry Advisory Committee.
The Keystone/Port Townsend Ferry Advisory Committee meeting is set for 6:30-8:30 p.m. Wednesday, June 18 at the Pope Marine Building, 540 Water St., Port Townsend.
