Montco to help municipalities find good deals on open space
Competition among communities for open space money could start sooner than expected in Montgomery County.
County commissioners on Thursday said they're considering letting municipalities that spent their original share of the county's $67 million in open space grants come back again if they come up with suitable proposals.
The potential winners: townships such as Upper Hanover, Marlborough or Franconia, which are among seven communities across the county that have used up their allocations under the current program and were not slated to be in line for further money until next year. Read more

Montco ex-coach awaits sentence for molesting boy
A former area hockey coach is awaiting sentencing in Montgomery County Court after pleading guilty to charges that he molested a young boy.
Gary L. Byer, 66, of Lower Frederick Township, pleaded guilty on March 27 to criminal rape attempt of a child and three other first-degree felony crimes, court records show.
Judge William R. Carpenter ordered Byer to remain in Montgomery County Prison without bail while awaiting sentencing.
Byer also must undergo an evaluation by the Pennsylvania Sexual Offender Assessment Board, which helps courts determine if an alleged sex offender is a sexually violent predator. Read more
