Elmont man arrested in 12 bank robberies
An Elmont man has been arrested and charged with robbing a dozen Nassau County banks after a surveillance camera video prompted tips from the public implicating him in the crimes, police said.
Jason Ross, 29, of 1371 Marshall St., was arrested Tuesday afternoon. He faces 12 counts of robbery, Nassau police said.
Nine of the robberies took place this year and three were in 2004, mostly in Oceanside, Franklin Square and Valley Stream, said Det. Sgt. John Giambrone of the robbery squad.
Ross, who is married and has a 5-year-old daughter, robbed the banks so that he could finance a heroin and crack habbit, Giambrone said.
