A spike in suicides and a growing fear for public safety on the Standing Rock Reservation has Sen.

FORT YATES - The leaders of American Indian tribes in the Great Plains are gathering at the tribal casino on the Standing Rock reservation that straddles North Dakota and South Dakota.

Sens. John Thune of South Dakota and Byron Dorgan of North Dakota are trying to restore officer numbers to the Standing Rock Indian Reservation, which straddles their states.
