We are residents of Ranches of Sonterra, having moved here from New York. We moved for the peace and what we thought was going to be a safer area. With what CYFD wants to do does not make us feel safe at all---I don't care what kind of fence they put up. There have been several escapes in the years we have lived here and these were young men 18 and younger. Move Camp Sierra Blanca to the area in southern Otero county where the other prision is--in the middle of nowhere. We do not want them here. Thank you.

Since when is a man or woman 18-21 a child?

I never could figure out why they would take a pristine historic site and make it a prison. Were in a area that depends on tourism for it's economy and one of the more historic places is a prison with keep out signs posted everywhere? It just doesn't make much sense. While Sierra Blanca has made progress with young offenders now they want to bring older more aggressive criminals. What's next, the overflow from Gitmo. Make this place a living museum as it should be.

It is a beautiful place out there. I hope it's taken care of. I remember when it was a hospital.

I remember when the boys had to march and do cadence. I remember when they broke the rules and had to go up on the hill and cut wood. I remember when it was a little more military and a little less Montessori.
