Flowery Branch man indicted in his brother's Christmas Day death
Mark Alan Fyfe, 53, is accused of shooting his brother Alan Scott Fyfe, 55, on Christmas Day, telling investigators he did so to protect his own son. In an Aug. 26 indictment, Fyfe was charged with murder, felony murder, aggravated assault, interference with government property and three counts of felony obstruction of an officer.

Hall may play role in future passenger rail
Gainesville-Hall County figures prominently in passenger and commuter rail proposals in the Georgia Department of Transportation's new long-range rail plan. Even though an official document isn't set to be released until December, officials are looking at Atlanta-Charlotte, N.C. rail to cut through the Hall area and potential commuter rail stretching 53 miles from Atlanta to Gainesville.

Habitat starts on a Home for a Hero
Habitat for Humanity of Hall County volunteers Saturday began work on their first official home for a veteran. Executive Director Ann Nixon said this was the 47th home constructed by Hall Habitat in 25 years and the goal is to have 100 Habitat homes built and occupied by the year 2020.
