Just one more way the government forces it's way into our lives.
This is exactly why I voted NO on the annexation of my unincorporated Florissant address.

Screw that pumpkin headed comb-over...tell me $hit!

Government does not force it's way into our lives.

We live in a society. That society has a lot of people, in fact a huge and growing number of people.
All of those people have different or varying views, abilities and means.

If everyone...
was highly intelligent,
was highly empathetic,
was very well-off financially,
was educated in all aspects of life,
had a strong sense of fair-play,
was considerate of others,
was diligent in all aspects of their social responsibilities...

THEN...

We would not need laws and we would not have government RESPONDING to the needs or wants or complaints of citizens in regards to things those citizens see as "problems" in our society.

Government is merely responding to the people.
Government is not some ghost or spirit or boogey man...the government is us.

That attitude is garbage! Andy you are full of it. Every home needs trash pick up just like every home needs sewer service. For the one in 25,000 who does not need either then be thankful that the government requires the rest of us to have it.

If you were still unincorporated, you would still have to have trash service (it is a county ordinance) and it would cost you more than you are paying now. ALL of county got contracted out and Flomo has a better deal and lower price.

Who the hell is Andy? Do you work for the government?
I have trash service A$$HOLE...I'm just saying that I don't need the government to make an ordinance. If they want to make it mandatory, then we pay it through taxes and the city can come haul it off. But when you make an ordinance that people MUST pay a private company for a service...That's Bull$hit!
Especially when these trash hauling companies pay off crooked politicians for contracts that monopolize the service to one company...Yes, Meridian is the ONLY service I can have for my neighborhood. THAT IS CRAP!
STL city can afford to haul it's own trash through taxes that people pay...and not terribly high taxes at that.
Why can't we do that?

I wish the government did not have to make ordinances. But in the real world people like to say they are "responsible" but few actually are.

Look at the things that should be "common sense" but for some "unknown reason" we need "ordinances" or "laws" to force people to exhibit what should be "common sense" behaviors.

We have ordinances against littering.
Why?
Do people actually lack the "common sense" to tell them that littering is a really dumb thing to do.
Well, actually, "Yes" many do seem to lack that "common sense".

We have ordinances against burning garbage or leaves. The "common sense" that would be acquired after catching a whiff of the noxious smoke from a neighbors burning garbage or leaf fire should be a simple lesson learned.
Extrapolating the "common sense" answer to "What if everyone burned gabage in their yards?", should be a no-brainer or "common sensical" too. But I truly doubt we have the "no burning" ordinances because someone decided it was a good day to write an ordinance.

The list goes on and on from car inspections, to housing standards to safety standards etc.

In reference to making it "mandatory" and then using taxes to pay for it, you must have missed a lot of the last 30 years of political discourse. There are a great many people who see "taxes" as evil and government as the evil-oppressor with taxes. There are a great many people who believe the private sector is the all-purpose answer to all social ills or societal problems.

Many people complain about intrusive government and yet when others act irresponsibly, or when things get crazy, they complain about how "There oughta be a law!"

A lot of people say "Government can't do anything right! The private sector is the ONLY logical solution to our problems." But then when some private company sells a dangerous or defective product or starts swindling people out of their hard earned money, they want the government to lay down some protections (laws or ordinances).

Rational discussions about the role of government in our lives would be a very helpful but somehow I get the feeling that the same sort of contradicting logic, logic that tells people "Government can't do anything right" one minute and makes them scream for government to fix a problem the next, is going to prevent that rational discussion from ever taking place.

Good sense is not "common". The reasoning capabilities provided by "common sense" do not seem to be very good at times.

Poo Taco #6 is not all wrong with his statement about paying for trash pick up through taxes and have the city of florissant haul it off.He shouldn't have to move to STL if he doesn't like it.We all have our own opinions and the right to voice that opinion! I think he has made several good point.

I can't believe this trash deal has still got so many people's panties in a bunch!
It's trash people and it is costing a lot less than many other goods and services.
You probably spend a lot more on gasoline in a month than trash cost for a year and all of the gas stations are gouging you for roughly the same price. Where's the outrage?
You are probably spending more on cable TV for 2 months than trash cost for a year and you are PAYING for the same thing that use to be free with the antenna on your roof! Where's the outrage?
Business executives in China get put to death for betraying the public trust, in America the business executives can ruin the lives of large numbers of people and they get golden parachutes or government bailouts. Where's the outrage?

Temporiti drawing fire from GOP in St. Louis County over relationship to county government

http://www.stltoday.com/stltoday/news/stories...

Excerpt from Post Dispatch on Sunday, November 27th..........taken from full article)

TRASH CONTRACTS

Temporiti's efforts last year on behalf of Allied Waste shows the fine line that separates Temporiti's private practice and his connection to county government.

Allied at the time was seeking hauling contracts for the county's new trash districts.

At one point, Temporiti invited representatives of competing trash companies to his law firm's office to discuss the program.

Bryan Barcom, of American Eagle Waste, said he was among about eight trash company owners or managers there. Barcom said Temporiti introduced himself at the meeting as "Charlie Dooley's best friend and his former campaign manager."

Barcom said Temporiti went on to say that not all the trash companies in the room would survive the trash districting program.

Barcom said, "He (Temporiti) said,'A few of you will be on board, but unfortunately, we're going to put a few of you out of business.'"

"At that point, I said,'Who are you to say who will stay in business and who will go out of business?' And from that point on, the meeting pretty much went downhill."

Barcom, whose firm did not win any of the trash hauling contracts, is now a plaintiff in a suit that alleges that the county failed to give haulers two years' notice before carrying out the program, as required by state law.

Allied eventually won contracts through bidding in two of the eight districts.

Temporiti denied that he made any comment about trash companies going out of business.

"I was there only as a facilitator representing Allied to try and provide for a discussion as to how this (trash program) would make the most sense in terms of what the county was proposing to do," he said.

"All I did was have them come together and say,'You're the industry. What makes sense for the industry in terms of responding to the county?'"

I do not like mayor Lowery. I think he is a p_ss poor manager who has mismanaged the city and it's money.

But this whole trash problem is not a problem caused by Lowery. The solution he and the council put forth, under pressure from the county council, may not be perfect...but it or something like it was inevitable.

Stop whining.

Trash service is cheaper now. Recycling is free. One trash truck on my street instead of four. It's a win, win, win, win, scenario.

Trash service is cheaper, a little, Recycling is not free, but built into the price of the service, and more than one truck on your street, trash service, 1 truck, recycle 2nd truck, yard waste 3rd truck..........so, still lots of truck service on a street.

I don't want cheaper trash service, that misses pick ups and has horrible customer service when I call! I will pay the extra money to chose the service that works for me. It's not my problem that other people are not getting the service or paying their bills.
Still wandering if this has ever gone to court. Does anyone know?
