new convenience store coming to flora

That is great of the area, 14 new jobs around minimum wage to replace the 100+ factory jobs lost.

But it should drive pump prices down in Flora, and it is 24 hour.

I guess I am wondering why we need another convenience store. Is that the best we can get for Flora?
What about new industry? What about more doctors or clinics?
Why isn't the city looking for new businesses for downtown Flora?

Asking your elected officials those questions is key. I believe that the property where this location is, was already zoned for commercial, and it wouldn't be that hard to change it, but that property has been sitting and the city wanted to sell it. Remember that record amount they paid the Walmart Corporationt to purchase it? That amount was larger than any other Walmart store sold at the time, they even cited one store in Nevada along Rt 50 which didn't sell for as much!

actually Mach 1's workers at their Effingham store aren't too bad on the pay wise. yeah they may start at minimum wage or slightly above, but I hear that by the end of your 1st year working there your making 10.50+ per hour. which for working in a gas station isn't half bad money.

One more thing. FINALLY a Gas station along 50 that will take CASH! you don't even know how much money FS is losing because it's credit card only. also if it's going to be built like the one on Banker in Effingham, which from the drawing I saw in the countywide Appleknocker issue of the H-J it looks close to the One in Effingham. meaning a possibility of a new restaurant or other business to go in the other part of the convenience store. who knows... Speaking of new businesses, the old Sun-rise cafe has been sold, or that's my guess given the for sale sign is down, and when I was coming back from Fairfield Tuesday the lights was on inside and an Electro Electric truck was there, and recently a lot of cars has been spotted around there, and not just skatepark kids either... stay tuned on that front.

I do like this news, I'm an insomniac, I like the fact that it will be open 24 hours a day.. I get tired of going to Huck's, because they always make me take my backpack off and keep it behind the counter (I ride a bicycle, the bag is my "storage place", I'm also 28 years old, not some kiddie with sticky fingers).. I don't see why they don't make women remove their purses if they make me remove my bag.. but that's another story.

I think, and hear me out on this.. Flora would do good with getting something besides wal-mart where you can buy tennis shoes, and unedited CD's.. I have big feet.. I have to go to effingham or olney to get shoes. I can't tell you were the closest place to buy unedited CDs is.. besides pawn shops and resale shops. I have to go aboard my pirate ship, and sail to distant lands, to get unedited cds.

you should get a cheap pannier on nashbar.com or performance bike

while visiting the local walmart, the cashiers were alerted about a woman getting four empty bags off an empty isle. they thought she was going to try filling them and claim she paid.(theft)

I knew exactly what was going on after finding out who it was, so I called the manager and said that woman has no means of transportation except a bicycle, she was using the bags to figure out how much she can carry. four bags will fill her pannier.

So that new convience store, they expect that to get built and open by the end of January???? better hope that we don't have winter between now and then, cuz unless they are using super quick construction techniques that won't be done in 2 months. If so then congrats to the construction company involved in building it...

Drove thru there the other day, appears to be coming up well, all the underground work must be done, 2 sides of the structure the I-beams appear to have been places also.
