This has to be the stupidest thing I have heard in a long time. I hope my hard earned tax dollars are not be used to fund a park for dogs. I think Brookhaven Town should consider spending the money on improving other facilities that are in need of some TLC. For instance, how about a decent parking area in front of the Pine Ridge Trail, which is currently an eye sore, mud/dirt hole.

I agree with Dumbfounded. At 31 I'm beginning to revisit the pro's of living on long island. Especially when I see tax dollars spent on this versus the 4 parks in my area which are littered with garbage. I bet the cost of this park plus the maintenance on it moving forward could put new computers in the majority of school districts around that area and some others as well. I am a fan of parks but let's think about improving the parks we've left behind first before building new ones for our four-legged friends.

Is this close to the 350 foot Indoor Ski Mnt. If it is that is great I can do some indoor skiing then walk my dog at the outside dog park. Great things are happening here on Long Island.

Obviously, you miserable people do not have a love for animals. This dog park is a wonderful thing for Brookhaven town and its residents. They are also charging fees to those of us that are planning to use the park with our dogs. That will be used to maintain the dog park. Lighten up people!

Gardiner Park in West Bayshore is a Dog's allowed Park. Trust me. You can't walk through it without stepping in Sheeite. Nobody uses a Leash nor do they bother to clean up after their Dog. It is disgusting. When I bring my Kids there to use the Playground you have to watch every step you make just walking the 50 feet or so from the car. I think Dogs should be banned from all Public Parks. just this morning I was at Robert Moses State Park. There are HUGE No DOGS ALLOWED signs everywhere. Yet people bring them in and nothing gets done about about it. The only time the Cops enforce the Law on Long Island is when it's convenient for them to do so. They will give a traffic ticket before hassling a Dog owner who is breaking the law even if it's as blatant as the owner has traveled 10 miles with the Dog in the Car to get it into the Park illegally. Long Island is starting to really suck because the People on Long Island are starting to really suck.

Some of us are simply questioning why our tax dollars are going to a dog park rather than upkeep/renewing our existing parks, school equipment enhancements, etc. I have animals btw. I guess I'm a little confused with the stance of the town on this one because I recently purchased a house and the previous owner left their cat as part of their 'parting gift' to us. For upwards of a month we made a number of efforts with the town, local sheltors, SPCA etc to whom a portion of all of our tax dollars go to in order to give it a good home and the door was shut on us for upwards of 6 weeks.
Enough of the band aids already. Fund the dog park via private dollars and have the town rent the park out to all the dog lovers who want to use it. Use some of the rent money to help control the pet population problem we have in the Town....

Why does Long Island need a dog park? Dont most people have homes with yards? Dont people take their dogs for walks? A dog park makes sense in NYC where there really isnt anywhere for a dog to run and exercise. But Long Island is the SUBURBS. We pay the almighty tax dollar for our sprawling (not) lawns. Let the dogs chit on their own lawns, not in the parks. And I agree- tax money should be spent on fixing the existing parks. What there is of them. Most of them are turning into mini-malls. I dont need 4 CVS stores in a 2 mile radius of my house, thanks.

what a bunch of whiney little bit*hes (pardon the pun) you all are. i dont know if any of you have dogs, but i do. plenty of people have had nowhere to take their dogs on this god forsaken island for excercise and social interaction. apparently all of you are rich enough to have a house with a giant fenced yard. i dont. so everyone that's crying about this should probably move on to the next newsday "post a comment" and whine there. love, me

If you don't have a place for the dog...you should have gotten a cat...
