Lawyers Want Takeover Of Haven Nursing Homes Till Buyer Found
Five of Haven Healthcare's nursing homes would be put under state receivership until new buyers are found while the rest of the chain would be split among three real estate investment firms, under a plan expected to be presented today in bankruptcy court.
In documents filed in U.S. Bankruptcy Court in New Haven, lawyers for the Haven chain are asking the state Department of Social Services to take over the operations of Haven nursing homes in Waterford, Danielson, Windham, Norwich and Farmington until permanent buyers can be found.

A local doctor who police said failed to report the suspected abuse of a child has been arrested.
Dr. Raymond C. Kurker, 54, of Cornerstone Drive was charged Tuesday with failure to report abuse or neglect by a mandated reporter, police said this morning. Officers obtained a warrant for his arrest after they investigated the physical abuse of a local child, according to a press release.
Kurker, the child's physician, is accused of failing to report the suspected abuse to the state Department of Children and Families as required by law. He turned himself in at the police station at 8:45 p.m. and was released from custody on a promise to appear in Superior Court in Manchester July 2, police said.
