WOW Stewart found a issue to get her name in the paper, I guess her crusade against speed racing did not take off. To bad she knows nothing about the issue. Stewart, here are some campaign tips, shut your mouth and get on a treadmill. Then you might sneak your way into the mayors seat.

I'm still wondering why they don't merge all services. Including mayor.

Orlando firefighters don't want the merger because they currently earn more and get larger raises than the Orange County FD. Also, several of the Chiefs would probably be laid off.

Time to be real in this shattered economy. We just can't afford so many people and so much equipment sitting around. The chiefs and union bosses won't want it, but if something isn't done soon about government excesses, there will be no turnips left to bleed. The problem is that the unions hold so much power (i.e. $$ contributions) over our politicians, it may already be too late.

If the City lays off Firefighters and shuts down some of our Fire Stations, like they have talk about doing, will the ISO rating stay the same?

ISO rating rating will go Up, as will the cost of insurance. Politicians don't care. Dyer is ONLY concerned about some Arts Center, People like that moron are in office a few years and leave for bigger and better things, leaving behind destruction in their wake. Firefighters, Police and other City employees are there for 20 plus years, and must live with the policies the politicians leave behind. If you think for a moment Dyer is going to give up control of the Orlando Fire Dept to Crotty, your wrong. Crotty isn't going to give up control of the Orange County fire Dept to Dyer, so you can forget about any so called merger.

Who care lets cut costs and give some relief to the shrinking hard working taxpayers in Orlando and Orange County. It absolutely makes no sense to have duplicate services in this poorly run area.

For too long these government workers and their union have been sticking it to the citizens.

Thes unions act like their members would die not sucking the fat government teat from vocational school to grave. They can and will get jobs just like everyone else can and has to.

The merger will never happen. The unions sell their voting block to whatever person signs their contract. I would bet that the union contract expires right before the Mayor's election. The Mayor hands out a big raise and get a lot of votes and union reps to make calls and hand out fliers. That is how they always seem to get the better deal in contracts.

This is just the beginning, Florida and America are getting wise to the scam firefighters have been pulling on the taxpayer. These self proclaimed "Hero's" are little more than common thieves.

Who cares, our fire budget has been bloated and from what I can see we have poor service as it is. If we have to work with less than lets get after it so these people can be looking for new jobs.

The economy is NEVER going to be what it was here in Central Florida which was built on BORROWED money on way OVERPRICED REAL ESTATE AND TAXES. The county will survive on 25-30% less money for the foreseable future. Get used to it. Its a return to normalacy!

We have to have SUSTAINABLE TAXES AND ECONOMY.

That's a mighty broad brush to call Firefighters and Paramedics "thieves". Let me know the next time you risk your life to save someone, then try to have an intelligent thought and maybe we could talk.

of course it'll save money, you only need 1 keg instead of 2, and 1 pot of stew. downside, difficulty getting into the card game could bring down morale.

You must live a pitiful life, and you sound like a Idiot. NO firefighter is a Self-Proclaimed Hero. I spent 27 years doing a JOB I was trained to do. That doesn't make me or anyone else a hero. Have a citizen crawl thru a smoke filled house to rescue a person, That's a Hero. Don't blame the firefighters because fire stations are close to one another. It has to do with who's legally responsible to protect that juristiction. You can "Hate" the firefighters if that makes you feel better, but the bottom line is they're just regular people doing a job they love, helping the community in which they live.

When confronted with some reasonable criticism some firefighters resort to bullying and name calling!

Merge the two and get it over with. Oh, sorry, Buddy can’t hear me in the skybox. This POS politician does not have the City of Orlando’s interest in his decisions, he only has his future in mind. In case you forgot, he lost the election to Charlie and settled for Orlando. First year $24 million budget deficit gone in four months, where did it go? Can you say employee layoffs and a shell game that Enron is envious of? Buddy and his merry band of thieves only care about political expediency and the very last thing they think about helping is the middle class and their democrat minions.

Not only should all county fire depts be merged, but so should all county police agencies.

One Orange County Fire Department and one Orange County Police Department.

It's time to get smart and be efficient. No politics, just common sense.

I agree that firefighters should not be laid off. However, I don't see this as Buddy's doing. He has said several times this is a move he is being forced to make.

The real blame lies with Amendment 1. People voted for smaller government and higher fees and now they are getting it. This is the result that we knew would come.
