LOVELAND - At least five families connected to Wednesday's immigration raid that led to 18 arrests at a Loveland concrete form company have contacted a 'help line' set up by an immigrants advocate group.

Breckenridge employee Vicki Coughlin is searching for a "Hoosier hopper" since the town-sponsored experiment with a van pool to Fairplay ended on Thursday.

Immigration enforcement officers arrested 18 men at a Loveland concrete business Wednesday morning for allegedly being in the United States illegally.

A Colorado Department of Transportation project upgrading the 16 mile segment of State Highway 9 between Fairplay and Hartsel is scheduled to begin on Monday, June 23.

" The National Forest Service says more than two acres have burned in a wildfire northeast of Fairplay near Topaz Mountain.

Hot, dry weather kept firefighters busy Tuesday afternoon.

The U.S. Forest Service was battling a fire north of Topaz Mountain. Topaz Mountain is east of Fairplay in Park County. The fire is estimated to be two acres. Gusty winds were fueling the fire. A helicopter and two engine crews were on hand along with a Single Engine Air Tanker (SEAT) from Fort Collins.

There have also been two fires in Arapahoe County.

A field fire burned nearly 35 acres off East County Road 6. The Strasburg and Bennett Fire Departments responded. The Arapahoe County Sheriff's Office was helping to determine the cause of the fire and who owns the property.

Investigators looking into several recent explosions in the High Country believe melting snow from this winter's record snowfall may be causing leaks in natural gas lines.

Firefighters say the leaked gas can build up inside homes and potentially be explosive.

There was an explosion on April 9 and another on May 5 in Fairplay. There was also one in April in Breckenridge.

In the most recent incident on Wednesday, a blast at a mobile home park killed one person and destroyed four mobile homes. The blast happened at about 8 p.m. on Highway 34, about 6 miles north of Granby, and the highway was closed for 3 hours while firefighters worked to extinguish the flames. Read more
