My daughter stayed at the Arcata Hotel two years ago when she went back to Arcata to attend her class reunion. She will never stay on the Plaza again. Her room overlooked the Plaza. She was afraid to walk around at night because of the scroungy peoople asking for money etc. She grew up in Arcata and she, her sister and I spent many nice afternoons on the Plaza, playing cards, doing homework and generally just enjoying ourselves. Street people in Ashland talk about going to Arcata because it is so easy to live there. Keep handing out the free stuff guys. They will keep coming in droves.

Did Alex Stillman's video recorder located at the north end of the Arcata Plaza catch anything?

Bum #1 was fighting Bum #2 over a tiny meth baggie laying on the ground. Bum #1 pulled a knife and stabs Bum #2 multiple times, taking the empty baggie from him.

Sorry, you can't blame Eureka for this. Arcata made it's own bed, now lie in it.

Arcata has not fallen to the scourge of Eureka, YET! But the times are changing. I'm an Arcatan who stays away from the Plaza, even during the day.

A big thanks to the Arcata city council never doing anything about the bum problem. They are destroying our home and all the city does year after year is watch it go down. How come the city can run them out for parents weekend but never at any other time?

Time to give some new $2 and $5 bills out around at the Plaza. To the most aggressive and scummiest people. It's my little social experiment. From the news, I guess it is working. LOL

Given the time and proximity, I'd bet a C note that this was an alcohol fueled crime, like so many others...

Too many sketchy people on the Plaza every late night. How about more cameras to identify and catch these creeps? But the creeps would probably complain to the ACLU about Big Brother, etc. and privacy rights. I say, you want to mishave in public, you're down you creeps! Slither back under that rock from which you crawled you creeps!

No doubt LA has its mega shares of scum, but you'll have to take responsibility for these bums yourself. Sorry.

Every dime I can save up is for one-way Greyhound tickets to Arcata.
Keep feeding the Bums we need somewhere to send them.

In Arcata, I never go to the square unarmed. A .38 works just fine. I hate vagrants!

The first ones that must be driven out are the "bleeding hearts" who have invited the low life into the area. Only then will the "bums" leave, after the free handouts, free showers, free wash and dry, free (well, almost, for only $2 a night) plastic hobo huts, free cell phones, free this-that-and-the-other have all ended.

It's taking too long for Nature to take care of it Herself, one stabbing at a time is not fast enough. They breed faster than that.

Daily Horoscope for December 23

Aries

Don't get embroiled in a bad-tempered skirmish today, for it might turn into more than that if you aren't careful. Everyone seems to be ratty and argumentative, but once you let the first spat take place it's effectively declaring open season. Even though things seem out-of-joint, keep your lines of communication open.
