Twist of fate: 50 years since deadly storm struck

The newspaper accounts are yellowed now, but a few local residents still can recall the 1963 tornado that ripped a 70-mile path of destruction from Essex, into Limestone Township, through Bourbonnais, through rural eastern Kankakee County and into Medaryville, Ind.

Essex police department robbed

The Essex Police Department was robbed, so they called the police. Still, no arrests have been made after police radios, chargers, two police jackets and a fax machine were stolen from the one-man police department Friday.
