Battle over Newland Sierra housing referendum pits big money against big money
Rita Brandin of Newland Communities at a press conference in Escondido's Grape Day Park on Wednesday As hundreds of paid signature-gatherers ply their trade in front of WalMarts, Targets and grocery stores all over the county, the opponents of the petition being circulated to reverse a recent county housing decision are urging voters not to sign it. They say the Newland Sierra housing project, approved unanimously by the county's Board of Supervisors last week, will bring desperately needed housing to the area and they allege opponents are spreading misinformation about the referendum.
