Sounds to me like this officer flipped mentally. Thirty years of distinguished service and then a robbery. Something happened in this guys life. It doesn't excuse what he did, but a mental eval should be offered.

Maybe he did not flip mentally. Maybe he was "on the pad" while a cop, hooked on the extra money, and needed a way to supplement his generous retirement. Admittedly, an ex or 2 would have seriously cut into his income.

He could have a brain tumor for all we know. If he were a loved one of mine, I would certainly want to find out if there were physical/mental reasons for his unusual behavior.

It's not a double standard. Most bank robbers with no prior criminal history get light sentences. Even though most bank robbers DO have a prior criminal history. He's getting the same treatment anyone else would with no prior criminal history. It seems what you really WANT is a double standard. Seems you would prefer he get a stiffer sentence than the average bank robber would get.

According to "Culture of Control: Crime and Social Order in Contemporary Society" by David Garland in 2001, the actual penalty for Bank Robbery is amorphous, it can be anything from probation to 20 years. Typically the penalty can be dependent on prior history of the subject and how the robbery/robberies took place. Whether anyone was injured or killed or whether it was a violent or non-violent robbery.

Even bank robbers sometimes get only probation and serve no time. Especially if they have no criminal history. Maximum is usually 25 years if it was a violent robbery or the suspect has a long history of robberies or violence.

I wonder how many crimes he committed while he was a officer. Glad to hear he will be locked up with many of the criminals he helped locked up however, he will be in a "two-five" resident.

Daily Horoscope for January 1

Cancer

Happy New Year, Cancer! Are you ready to put those resolutions into place? Not quite?! Crustaceans are never quite sure just how much they can get away with and where to draw the line. You have a flair for the dramatic and when you're the narrator, your exploits become deeds that would make a knight proud. Your fans know you're a hero, whatever history might prove. Audacity impresses most people but if you go to far you could cause offence.
