Summer has just gotten started so it is hard to believe that After Harvest Festival is just a month away.

The Barton County Commission Monday morning approved a proclamation honoring Ellinwood and Great Bend high school students in the Future Business Leaders of America Career and Technical Education Student Organization.

Daniel James "Danny" Otipoby, 37, of Ellinwood, died Monday, June 10, 2013 at Great Bend Regional Hospital, Great Bend, from injuries received in a motorcycle versus deer accident, two miles east of Great Bend.

A 38-year-old Ellinwood man died Monday night after the motorcycle he was driving hit at deer on U.S. 56. Daniel J. Otipoby was transported to Great Bend Regional Hospital.

An overnight motorcycle wreck left one Barton County man dead. It happened around 9:15 Monday night on US 56, just east of Great Bend.

According to the Kansas Highway Patrol, Marvin L. Dewey, 60, Sioux Falls, S.D., was southbound on Kansas Highway 25 approximately 6 miles north of Interstate 70 at 3:25 p.m. when he fell asleep.

The historic Wolf Hotel in Ellinwood has a new owner, 26-year-old Chris McCord. He said he plans to turn the 1894 building into a bed-and-breakfast and meeting space.
