Elkland woman injured in one-car crash
An Elkland woman sustained minor injuries Monday when her car veered off the road and crashed into a tree off Cummings Creek Road in Farmington Township, Tioga County.
*Brett A. Leonard, 22, of county Route 17 in Savona, was charged July 30 with petit larceny. *A 16-year-old Corning youth was charged July 30 with petit larceny. *Robert C. Harsch, 43, of Tioga Street in Wellsboro, was charged July 30 with third-degree criminal possession of a weapon. *Janet M. Mallory, 20, of Poestenkill, N.Y., was charged July 27 with fifth-degree criminal possession of stolen property. *Dawn M. Hawkins, 35, of Orchard Street in Elmira, was charged July 30 with operating a vehicle on a suspended registration during a traffic stop. *Markedis L. Williams, 26, of Franklin Street in Elmira, was charged on a warrant July 30 with third-degree aggravated unlicensed operation of a vehicle. *Jennifer M. Cox, 22, of Canal Street in Elmira, was charged July 30 with third-degree aggravated unlicensed operation of a vehicle during a traffic stop. *Daniel J. Anderson, 32, of Loucks Pond Road in Avoca, was charged July 27 with second-degree aggravated unlicensed operation of a motor vehicle. *Howard Roland Moon Jr., 51, of Elkland, a Steuben County Jail inmate, was charged July 29 as a fugitive from justice. He is wanted in Pennsylvania on felony drug charges, police said. Moon was returned to the jail, where he awaits an extradition hearing. *Joseph B. Wallace, 18, of Avoca, was charged July 26 with unlawful possession of marijuana. *Christopher Clark, 36, of Addison, was charged July 25 with unauthorized use of a motor vehicle and theft. Troopers said Clark took a truck owned by a Monroeton resident without permission. *Keith D. Jones, 31, of Pine City, was charged July 27 with simple assault. Jones is accused of ramming his vehicle into another that was occupied by two Pine City residents. The incident took place in Ridgebury Township. *Sheila A. Forrest, 43, of Sayre, was charged Monday with harassment for sending unwanted text messages, police said. *Joseph Jennings, no age available, of Columbia Cross Roads, was charged July 30 with involuntary deviate sexual intercourse, aggravated indecent assault and indecent assault. Police said the offenses occurred between 1998 and 2007. *Myron Wittig, no age available, of New Albany, was charged July 30 with indecent assault and corruption of minors. Police said the offenses occurred between 2001 and 2008. *Christina Marie Dodge, 28, of Wysox, was charged July 30 with retail theft at Wysox General Store. *Sean Weldy, 36, of Wysox, was charged July 30 with simple assault and harassment after a domestic incident. *Kyle Oliver, 20, of Towanda, was charged July 30 with underage drinking. *Jason Thomas Smith, 37, of Galeton, was charged July 28 with simple assault and harassment. *Andrew L. Spear, 37, of Campbell, was charged July 25 with driving while intoxicated. *A 17-year-old Wellsburg boy was charged July 23 with driving while intoxicated. *Brett J. Truax, 19, of Montour Falls, was charged July 23 with unlawful possession of alcohol by a person under the age of 21. *Brianna J. West, 18, of Odessa, was charged July 23 with unlawful possession of alcohol by a person under the age of 21. *A 17-year-old Odessa boy was charged July 23 with unlawful possession of alcohol by a person under the age of 21. *Tara A. Hoose, 20, of Millport, was charged July 24 with unlawful possession of alcohol by a person under the age of 21. *Mary V. Baker, 21, of Horseheads, was charged July 24 with unlawful possession of marijuana. *Donald J. Dieterle, 54, of Horseheads, was charged July 25 with harassment. *A 17-year-old Horseheads boy was charged July 27 with unlawful possession of alcohol by a person under the age of 21. *Tanouce J. Crusade, 19; Brian L. Koehler, 18; Michael A. Tortolon, 18, and a 17-year-old boy, all of Dundee, were charged July 27 with criminal mischief and trespassing. Local governments try a new kind of bidding
When Perkasie started replacing its Christmas decorations, borough officials were left with a puzzling question: what to do with the old castoffs?
Borough Manager Dan Olpere said he just want to pay to have them thrown away. But 40 sets of used decorations are hardly the stuff of consumer excitement, he said.
As an experiment, Perkasie advertised the items on an eBay-like Web site specializing in online municipal auctions.
The result was a $100 bid from the tiny borough of Elkland, Tioga County.
