According to a 9-1-1 dispatcher, the call about the fire came in around 6 a.m. Elk Mills and Hampton Volunteer Fire Departments were sent to the marina.

Carter County currently owns a piece of property on U.S. Highway 321 in the Elk Mills community being considered for the site of a new recycling convenience center.During this week's meeting of the landfill committee, County Commissioner John Lewis informed his colleagues about his efforts to place a rescue squad unit in the Elk Mills area.
