As a Viet Nam Veteran I witnessed the bravery of the Navy Corpsman, when someone yelled 'corpsman up' there was no hesitaion on his part to go attend to the wounded. I would imagine it was the same for the Army Medic, It just get's someone to wonder what ever happened.The doctor's of today are in that proffesion for the money, you think you have it bad, at the VA we have a limited staff of real doctor's, we are being treated by nurse-practioner's. When I first started getting medical care at the VA I was always being treated by either a very young Chinese or someone from India or someone ohter then an American Doctor. In fact the very first time I was seen by an American doctor I was surprised and made that comment to him.

Art G. gives a good picture of government health care!!!!!! Having had both civilian care and government care(thru military) I can tell you, your not going to be happy with government run health care!

Well Bonnie, then you should go spend 12 years of your life working 70 hours a week, studying your butt off, racking up student loans, and become a doctor. Then you can specialize in whatever you wish and charge whatever you feel is fair for your services.

When I moved to El Paso they assigned me this VA doctor who was Vietnamese. He saw right away that I was uncomfortable with him as my doctor. I admitted as much, so they gave me another: an Iranian. I paid $40 online to research his medical records and found out his licence had been pulled in Calif and Ariz. I gave up and now pay my own medical bills, or do without. |

I am a veteran of the Cold War era and have enjoyed VA health care for the past eight years. My primary care physician has remained the same since the beginning. He is a well-qualified local doctor who knows me well and treats me with respect.
Last year, after a false positive test for lung cancer, he made sure I received a PET scan and consultation by a leading El Paso oncologist. The PET scan proved that I did not have lung cancer, but my VA physician made sure that I had the best care possible. I also have been referred to other local doctors when the appropriate specialists were unavailable at the VA. I also have received excellent emergency care when necessary at William Beaumont through an arrangement with the VA Clinic. It's true that our local VA doctors are overworked with a staggering patient load, but they do the best they can. Perhaps with the passage of the new $109-billion VA bill (today in the Senate) our local VA clinic can hire more doctors and improve their care for those of us who have served in uniform. |

Then don't "choose" to get the government option if it is established. What part of "choice" or "option" don't you people understand? The competing bills have been so gutted that at this point it looks like a vast majority of the population won't even be eligible for the "option". That's a far cry from a single-payer system that those like you seem to fear the bill would lead to. |

Bonnie Santos, you have the option of finding another doctor and tell the rude one why you are going. I had to do that with a doctor who seemed to think I was stupid because the myriad of pills he prescribed were not helping my medical problem and the cost of them was 50% of my take home pay every month. I have been very satisfied with my new doctor and with the lung specialist she sent me to. I rarely have to wait more than 20 minutes for my appointments and I do not feel rushed by the doctor who always askes me if I have any questions.
I have had both government medical care and private. in some cases the government care was wonderful and at it's worst was adequate. Private is a 50/50 if you select a doctor on the things you feel important........education, language, age you will not be disappointed as often. I wanted a doctor whose primary language was English who received their license to practice within the past 20 years (no Doogie Howsers) and educated in the USA. I am very pleased. |

"Don't get me wrong. It is the right and the duty of political commentators (and politicians) to ask thorny questions; criticize and question various utterances, plans and bills of some politicians; but that should be it." A reason that things get ugly is that the thorny questions aren't answered, merely stone-walled so that the questioner gives up in frustration. When utterances, such as those made by John Murtha regarding deliberate killing of people by American soldiers, then disproved followed by no apology. it gets ugly. Freedom of speech is a right in this country; "that's it" is an ugly attitude. Perhaps in another country, shutting someone out by saying "that's it" is acceptable; in this country, it's only an inane, insipid action.

Those of you complaining about non-American doctors in government facilities should ask why this happens.
The overwhelming majority of non-American doctors/dentist in the VA or other government healthcare facility are there to help. If you have a problem with their care go elsewhere. The white or "American" doctors are out making a pretty penny in private offices because American Healthcare today is a business plain and simple. Government doctors, regardless of nationality are there to treat every patient to their best of their ability regradless of whether or not you have insurance or the money to pay for their Porsche that month. What type of doctor do you want? |

There's good and bad doctors from ALL ethic or national backgrounds. I have had civilian, Active duty and VA doctors.
I have had a better experience with the VA in EP than Beaumont especially when dealing with the Beaumont non-medical personnel. The VA people have always been very helpful and courteous. Beaumont nonmedical and some of the non-doctors treat patients as an interruption or are very condescending. The Commander of Beaumont should take an announced walk around his facility and then see how's it done at the VA. So there's good and bad everywhere. |

Dear Manuel Judaschke,
You say, "Glenn Beck can't hoax me that he wouldn't want the 2016 Olympics to take place in the U.S.), even if he might be of the opposite party." By "opposite party" I assume you mean to say that Glenn Beck is a Republican, because it is commonly (mistakenly) held that Republican is the opposite of Democrat. You are wrong, however. Glenn Beck is a self-described Libertarian, NOT a Republican. Also, unfortunately, there is no room for compromise on this current health care bill as long as it includes a so-called "public option." The reason is that it is fundamental difference in philosophy between those that are for the public option and those that aren't. There is no compromise there. However, there are ways to drastically improve the American health care system WITHOUT resorting to a divisive "public option" system and fundamentally changing the foundation of America. If Obama and the Dems REALLY cared about the people, fixing the health care system and exercising bipartisanship, they would do all these things WITHOUT pushing the public option down our throats. Unfortunately, they do not appear to genuinely care about the American people or improving the health care system. Theirs is a much more dangerous and sinister agenda. |

El Paso tax nightmare
|
||||
What choice do people have when they are forced to support government insurance with their tax dollars. When employers are forced to provide "Cadillac" insurance plans or pay a tax that supports the government insurance. In the same way that government schools have pushed private schools into a market where only the wealthy can afford them, government insurance will push private insurance into a business model where only the rich can afford it. Then you have single payer insurance for everybody but congress and their wealthy special interests. They can put words like "choose" into the bill so that useful idiots spouting their ignorance have something to hang their hat on but the fact of the matter is that once government gets it's foot in the door, there is no stopping it. |

During the Bush and Republican congress years, the VA was gutted with huge cuts in dollars that provided services to veterans.
It is easy now to blame the failures on another president, but look at the real culprit. While you are at it, look at the people that elected this culprit into office and blame them. |
||||
Actually that is a flat out lie, but no less than I would expect from a liberal. VA spending increased at a faster pace under Bush than it did under Clinton (not surprising since we are at war). Bush then budgeted for less rapid growth of VA money (not cuts)in 2007 and 2008 followed by a planned freeze in 2009. The freeze was never realistic and was just a budget trick Bush used to (dishonestly) show a more balanced budget. The Republican congress was never involved with anything other than budget increases. It does not look like Barry O went along with the budget freeze (since he is in charge for 09). http://www.factcheck.org/article144.html http://www.washingtontimes.com/news/2007/feb/... http://www.whitehouse.gov/omb/rewrite/budget/... Google is your friend. |
