County Commissioner Gandara chooses final member of ethics commission

Gandara is a liar. Everyone in the political circles knows that Jose Rodriguez's assistant Joanne Bernal is married to one of the biggest ambulance chasers in town, Oaxaca.
This is the real corruption in El Paso. Everyone in office has relatives they put in powerful positions to hire other relatives. The $500 contributions the political elite are trying put Luther Jones in jail over are just a diversionary tactic to make you look the other way so you don't notice the millions of dollars in salaries that relatives of politicians steal from the public trough.
Way to go EP Times for exposing the little "trick" Gandara is pulling to get Jose Rodriguez a vote on the Ethics Commission. How can the husband of the top assistant one of the elected officials that comes under the jurisdiction of this body sit on this body? He should not and he should be removed. Have the balls to keep following this story EP Times. This is your duty in our society, to point out this type of nepotism and corruption so the public can know what is going on behind the scenes, in smoke-filled rooms where politicians like Rodriguez have been going for the last 20 years while they have been in control of this city. Everything is wired by the existing elite. We need new blood in office in this town, throw the bums out! We are where we are as a crap city because we keep electing the same people to office. I'd vote for Joe the dog catcher over Jose Rodriguez. We already know what we get with him, corruption, nepotism, waste, mismanagement. Let's give someone else a try!

I actually applied for the Ethics Commision a little over a year ago, because I was sick and tired of hearing about all of the corruption. After about one week I was pretty much advised "don't call us...we'll call you". Now they go and appoint a personal injury attorney "friend" into the position? For one what does a personal injury attorney know about ethics? Two, if they are friends...how much looking into corruption will his friend be doing? More like head things off at the pass before it turns into a story!! No wonder this City/County Government is morally bankrupt!

The Ethics Commission SHOULD be composed of concerned citizens who are not "connected" with the idiot county judge and commissioners. Now we need a Blue Ribbon Grand Pooba Ethics Commission to oversee the ethics-challenged Ethics Commission.

The corrupt clowns in power would never go for a fair and independent Ethics Commission. As long as they are in power they are going to try to stack the deck in their favor every chance they get...so they can keep getting away with the underhanded business dealings that's been going on for way too long. I'm a firm believer in doing what you can to fix a problem, and was willing to volunteer my time away from my family to help with whatever I could to try to bring ethics and morals back into our local government; but evidently that's not what they are looking for. They want to be able to claim that "we have an ethics commission to ensure there is no wrongdoing going on" but they're not going to advertise that they picked exactly who they wanted for that commission. Why would they pick an attorney for the position over someone who honestly wants to see things done above board? So the attorney can advise them on how they can pocket the money and avoid getting caught up on charges??? Maybe? But these clowns continually get elected into office. I'm starting to think it's a lost cause.
