Well this is no surprise.
New CEO comes in and:

1. Murphy hours go to (4) 9hr days +(1) 4hr Fridays leaving families split on everything from children sports activities, homework and dinnertime.
2. Murphy offers early retirement packages to its most-experienced veterans paving the way for a new company order.
3. Murphy moves small segment of operations to Houston, TX despite cost report released to shareholders revealed moving any operation to Houston would be fiscally negative due to cost of living ratio increase.
4. Murphy revenue for the three months ending Sept. 30 fell to $5.18 billion from $8.17 billion due in-part to the recession, though with bigger losses compared to equal-size competitors.
5. Murphy announces that beginning January 1, 2010 it will be issuing random drug testing to all El Dorado employees (though administration was not mentioned) ending a right to personal liberty policy held in place since company establishment.

In summary:

1&5 the depletion of employee morale and trust
2,3,4 Corporation-wide financial failure- employees and shareholders
1-5 New Company Order failure, shareholders ask for explanation of failure.

1. That is considered a family frinedly work schedule every place else in the country.

5. Drug use is a serious problem among the workforce in El Dorado. And what part of "ALL" don't you understand. The fact that it has taken this long is a surprise.

I don't get what point you're trying to make. A company can set the rules as they see fit. Those who don't want to agree to the working conditions are free to go somewhere else. I don't own Murphy stock, but I do own a few other oil stocks, and they all went down because the price of oil went down. Its supply and demand. Shareholders are also free to buy and sell as they see fit. If they don't like the prices, they can sell and put their money somewhere else. Stocks are a risk. They go up and they go down. Anyone who buys stock knows that they could lose their money. You really don't lose anything unless you sell the stock. You can hold it as long as you want. It will eventually go back up. Just don't borrow money to buy stock and then you won't get in trouble. Most places make employees take drug tests. I too am surprised that they haven't been doing this. Those working hours sound wonderful to me. Anyone who has a job these days should be very thankful.

My first question is do you work for murphy or just hold stock? I have friends at murphy who don't like the new hours, but are glad to have a job. Losing 3 billion in 90 days is a lot to consider though. As for the drug problem, does murphy have a drug problem and Also I do remember hearing years ago that murphy and other commercial offices carry the same policy as the government and teachers about random testing.

One of the most incompetently ran companies on the face of the planet.

Office politics? You've never even seen office politics till you've worked at murphy! Especially in the murhpy usa building! They don't value hard work or competency AT ALL. It's more about who you know or better yet who you blow! Try getting a head based on performance. It won't happen! Unless your performance is of the ass kissing variety!

Upper management treats the lower level workers like they are plague victims. They constantly exhibit obvious signs that they consider everyone and anyone expendable. In the past couple of years it's went from being a decent and semi fun work place to being the equivalent of a slave ship. All they are missing is a drum up front and a big guy with a whip!

I heard they were considered for fortune magazines list of top companies to work for and that was blown out of the water by the answers to random surveys from some employees!

Of course anyone in the "buddy buddy club" will say that it's the perfect place to work on earth. You better watch out though. Their breath probably smells horrendous, what with all that ass they kiss on a daily basis!

Luckily they deal in something that makes money no matter how incompetent they are. If it was in a more competitive field I have no doubt that they would have gone belly up by now.

Trust me morale is crumbling at the base levels now. Think all those chiefs can handle this wigwam when all the Indians leave?

Daily Horoscope for December 8

Libra

Get organized because that's the best way to be productive today. You're eager to be as efficient and practical as possible, but you won't get very far if you don't know what to do first. So draw up a list of priorities and start with the most urgent. Ideally, you should be left to your own devices while you do all this because that will aid your concentration and self-confidence.
