Sheriff Beary decides not to seek re-election
“I believe this agency has become and continues to be one of America's premier law enforcement operations”
Orange County Sheriff Kevin Beary, whose tenure has been marked by both popularity and controversy, has decided not to seek a fifth term later this year. via The Orlando Sentinel

He is not seeking re-election but is seeking a jelly donut.

Whoever takes over for Sheriff Beary MUST aggressively combat the increase in violent crime in Orange County.
The days of lip service are over. This issue will not go away & no longer can be swept under the rug by those in elected office. The citizens of Orange County demand action. I refuse to vote for ANY candidate who does not have an agressive plan of action to combat violent crime. |

Let me add - that's ANY candidate running for any elected office. City commission, county commission, mayor, or sheriff.
If you do not have an agressive plan to combat violent crime then you will not receive my vote, period. I urge citizens of Orlando & Orange County to take the same stance. It's time to address this situation with action! |

We should be more concerned about the safety of our citizens here in Orlando & Orange County then we are with new & upgraded arenas, a new performing arts center, even tourism.
The safety of our citizens should come first. Frankly, I feel those in elected office at the City & County levels have put the public safety of us citizens, the people who pay taxes, the people who elected them to office behind other initiatives. As I stated, we must make a stand to let those seeking re-election or election that we will not vote for any candidate who does not have an aggressive plan of action to curb the rise in violent crime in our beloved area. Thank you. |

This is all the result of manipulation and back-door deals with Rich Crotty and all the good-ole-Southern boys who are running this town. Not that I have any issue with Beary not running, just that there isn't a strong newcomer in the bunch being talked about to run...and the musical chairs of Public Safety staff in Central Florida continues. This maneuver has been in the works for years.

this is the best decision Sherriff (and i use the term loosely) Beary has ever made. His legacy is a disgrace! This is also a very good day for the taxpayers of Orange County hopefully we will have a new sherriff that will restore the integrity and honor the OCSO deserve.

I hear Jerry Demmings is going to run for OC Sherrif. Could you imagine the dinner table conversations in the Demmings household seeing that his wife just became Orlando's Chief of Police. Should be some cost savings when it comes to intergovernmental coordination. Who needs a boardroom...when there's a bedroom?

Best news I've heard in 15 years.

i have a question... in the picture that accompanies this sentinel article the Sheriff has five stars attached to his collar.. I always thought it was one star for each term served, but since the sheriff only served four terms as per this article, why then five stars? staff size? county population? anyone know?

He did good work for a long time before the nonsense took over. I'm glad he's getting out while there's still some people who remember how he used to be.

Anyone know if Lawson Lamar is thinking of leaving as well??? It would be a vast improvement if we have a new OC Sheriff and then a new State Attorney on the other side ...

Yea... the crook is gone!

The nunber of stars is strictly based on ego; nothing more. His hero was General Patton, which is why he started out with 4 stars, then when other sheriff's started to go to 4 stars, he went to 5. |

Beary is a well know liar, I wouldn't trust him as far as anyone could throw him...which at 500lbs isn't very far.

I will miss the guy, he really like to squirt tears out on the evening news!By the way no matter how bad or good you think the sherrif is crime will not be reduced until the crime hills is gone!!!!!

I guess LORD LARD the BUTTERBALL has decided that he has stolen enough from the citizens of Orange County. Now he has to worry about where he can get FREE DONUTS. Now maybe the citizens of Orange County can get an honest man to do the huge job of law enforcement in our county. Kevin, Thanks for nothing.

Somehow I get the feeling this is nothing more than a ploy to save his pension before he's convicted

I have but one thing to say about this story about Tubby not running for Sheriff again, GO JOHN TEGG the best man for the job. He will bring back the PRIDE to the Sheriff's Department. Something that is long over due.
