Voters at Blue Earth Area renewed their school's excess levy Tuesday. Nearly 82 percent of the votes cast were in favor of renewal of the five-year added tax.

Under the picture-perfect blue skies of a September afternoon, rural parishioners gave thanks for the bounty of the upcoming harvest in southern Minnesota.

A tornado warning has been issued for Freeborn County from 7:25 until 8:30 p.m. At 7:18 p.m., strong thunderstorms were spotted five miles east of Delavan moving northeast at 10 mph.

A slow-moving storm produced multiple tornadoes in Faribault County on Sunday. Sheriff Mike Gormley said he was doing some mowing at the new law enforcement center in Blue Earth when he saw the first rotation.

A number of tornado warnings have been issued for southern Minnesota. Four inches of rain were also dumped in Minnesota Lake.

Many of them touched the ground before dying. Much of the Albert Lea area faced tornado and flood warnings.

Dozens of southern Minnesota firefighters hoping to get a little rest after a friendly competition Sunday afternoon instead spent the evening watching for severe weather.

Melvin R. Schrader, 81, of Faribault MN; formerly of North Minneapolis, passed away June 19, 2009 at Pleasant Manor Nursing Home, Faribault.
