Same old story, over and over and over. When will police start policing Long Island streets, roads and highways? My guess: NOT SOON.
Our roads are not safe. Better prepare for drunken drivers, drug-crazed drivers, drag racers, aggressive drivers, weavers, cell-phone zombies, speeders, wrong-way drivers and worse, because our police and our government have let the situation deteriorate too far to fix. The problems will just get worse, at an ever-increasing rate. Long Island: you let it happen to yourself! |

Close down all the Dunkin Donut shops now !!!!

Again, the bad guy (drugged driver) was from West Babylon and the victim was from Mastic. Just like the Katie Beers thing where the victim was from the Mastic area and the criminal was from Great River. Everyone assumes when they hear Mastic that it was the person from our town's fault. This mis-thinking has to change soon.

Attention re-tards at Newsday:
A 19 year old woman is NOT a child you pervs |

Are you kidding - how is this the police department's fault. Are you proposing they test every individual for any sort of impairment every time an ignition is turned on? Or would you prefer that an officer was stationed every 20 yards or so on every street on Long Island and pull over anyone who performs any sort of questionable driving move? Then you'd probably be the first to complain about our taxes going up to pay their salaries. Place blame on where it belongs - the impaired driver! |

This is horrible. It appears to be his second offense unless there are two Stephen Catalanos of West Babylon.

What happened on the road was a tragedy. Instead of passing judgement on our police and all that were involved, maybe each of us should take a moment to pray for the victims of this horrible accident. They are all young people, in the prime of their lives. We should be thinking about the ones who were hurt yesterday. Let's pray for them and their families, who are going through a nightmare at this time. My heart goes out to all the young victims, their families and friends. Stay strong.

I don't blame the policeman at all; I blame the police departments -- and more importantly, the political forces behind funding them. I am sure that the hands of the police department are often tied for political reasons, such as the fact that politicians know that the public does not want to be fined "just" for using cell phones or speeding "just ten or fifteen miles over the limit." Just look at the (non-)enforcement of handicapped parking restrictions! Look at the brazen disobedience of traffic signs and signals. Look at all the cars parked in "No Parking" and "No Standing" zones in shopping centers! The public itself is to blame, for demanding lax enforcement, indirectly of course, by saying loud and clear that public money should not be used for unambiguous enforcement. In short, the public is more willing to accept a few hundred vehicular deaths per year than to pay for, and be subjected to, proper law enforcement, the kind that would clearly save human lives. |
