Hit the guy with the harshest sentence possible and let's start working on enacting tougher laws against this irresponsible, criminal behavior. This has got to be dealt with because we have a crisis on our hands with this thing. Too many times during the week we keep reading of these idiots drinking and driving. They tear up people's lives and do not seem to fear the consequences. We have elected officials who are sitting on their hands regarding this situation, let's get with it and do something!!!

Another garden variety DWI fatal that happens almost daily on Long Island. Tougher laws and more enforcement might help.

Perhaps the real problem is that reckless driving is causing these accidents not drunk driving ?

Is it the drinking that causes some one to drive reckless or is it the reckless driving that causes these accidents ?

More deaths and accidents are caused by reckless driving than drunk driving and the feel good politicians do not want you to know that.

Feel good politician term - "alcohol related" means that the person walking in the street is drunk and you hit him and he dies and you are sober.

Drunk driving accident is the same - you could be entirely sober driver and hit another car with a drunk driver and it will be considered a drunk driving accident.

Once again, it is the drunken idiot that walks away from the accident and the innocent party is killed. DWI conviction should include community service at the county morgue handling the dead. The community service should be done AFTER you have served your time in jail !!!!

THAT IS REDICULOUSLY LOW!!!!....THIS IS ALLLLL POLITICAL......DON'T GET ME WRONG......I DO '''NOT''' SUPORT DRUNK DRIVING, BUT THE STANDARDS ARE WAY TO LOW.

It was my house....no one knows what it's like to come home and see 2 cars on your front lawn....one of them 5 feet away from your front door with a lifeless body inside of it. My thoughts and prayers go out to both families, it is a tragedy that I will not soon forget...

Hopefully, he'll hold out for the PO PO SPecial: 6 months for two felonies and a misdemeanor that resulted in a death. He, if a cop can get that deal, then it should be offered to the rest of society as well.

Send him to Nassau. I'm sure DA Rice can find a school to put him in as she does for drug offenders. Hell the guy only killed a person.

Wow, that had to be unnerving for you. Tell me, is your house near the bend in the road between Roseland and Lyman? There have been many accidents there over the years.

Driving under the influence is illegal. It is something that the public is not properly instructed about. Too many of us think it's ok to have a drink with dinner, a quick drink on the way home from work and that since we feel alright we can drive. I believe that after one drink with a meal and that it's probably not the reason the driver losses control or makes a reckless decision. Since we may have any blood alcohol reading, the cause is always defined as "alcohol related" or dwi. There are so many other factors that come into play when causing an accident...cell phones, adjusting radio stations, use of prescription medications, lighting cigarettes and more distractions that take the drivers attention for a couple of seconds.

In NYS driver's licenses are issued and renewed without further training. Driver's should be tested for more than their eyesight. They should be taught about the dangers of all the things that could cause accidents and then tested to determine that they understand the laws and safety issues. Only when they pass their tests should their licenses be issued (or reissued.)

INTERESTING you should say that: I was remembering the case of Sophia Santos the 20 year old who struck another vehicle in Levittown (?) back in November where a passenger died in the accident. Santos is being held on $1million bail, whereas the drunk cop is free on $15thousand. DA Kathleen Rice is not happy about the cop's lenient sentence (who cares what makes Rice happy.) I totally agree with you - the penalty should be standard, there's no reason to charge civilians with tougher sentences.

I worked with Vinny and he was a wonderful human being. He had two jobs and was on his way home from his second job. He was going home to his wife and two small children. The greif that drunk driver caused to his family AND co workers is horrible. That driver will live with this for the rest of his sorry life, lock him up!

Time to model our DWI laws after Europe's. NC and SC PD - stop eating donuts at the local Exxon and get on the highways to enforce the laws.

I am a neighbor of the Latorre family. The drunk driver who caused this accident should be locked up in jail for the rest of his life. The pain that guy has caused Vinny's wife and small child as well as his friends and coworkers is unbelievable. Vinny was good father, husband and friend. My prayers are with him and his family. Rest in peace Vinny!
