Cobble Mountain Reservoir remains closed to visitors
Following the terrorist attacks on September 11, 2001, many reservoirs in Massachusetts were closed to the public to protect the water supply, but have since reopened for public use. The reservoir is operated by the Springfield Water and Sewer Commission and is the primary water supply for the City of Springfield , as well as Ludlow, Agawam, East Longmeadow, and Longmeadow.

EAST LONGMEADOW - A fire that destroyed a shed and melted siding at a Brookhaven Drive home early Thursday has been deemed suspicious, and investigators are now trying to figure out what sparked the blaze. Firefighters were dispatched at 1:30 a.m. to 19 Brookaven Drive, where they found a shed fully involved in flames, Morrissette said.

East Longmeadow School Committee votes to have 3-8 grade students take PARCC exam
Ninth and 10th grade students will turn their attention to the MCAS test once again this year, while third through eighth graders will instead take up a pencil-and-paper version of the PARCC assessment, according to the decision made by the School Committee Monday evening. "The recommendation continues to be that the leadership team feels since the graduation requirement is still there through this current freshman class for MCAS, that we stay MCAS in grades nine and 10, and we look at the PARCC, and utilize the PARCC paper-and-pencil exam in grades three through eight this year," said Superintendent Gordon C. Smith.

East Longmeadow School Committee to vote on administration of MCAS, PARCC tests
The School Committee will meet this evening, Monday, September 8, at 7 in the Superintendent's Conference Room, located near the ELCAT offices on the campus of the town high school, in order to vote on how the MCAS and PARCC tests will be administered in district schools this year. At the last meeting, which was held on August 11 , committee members suggested that third-through-fifth grade students take the new PARCC test this year, while having older students continue to be assessed through the staple MCAS exam.
