Fourteen months after beginning their fight against a proposed cell phone tower in their neighborhood, residents tasted victory Thursday night.

A Monmouth County man was struck and killed while attempting to cross Route 9 at the intersection of East Freehold Road in Freehold this morning, according to a report in the Asbury Park Press.

Route 9 north is closed near East Freehold Road because of an accident investigation.

At the traffic signals installed at the intersection of Route 79 and East Freehold Road and Kosloski Road in Freehold, pedestrian 'walk/don't walk' signals have been installed as standard motorist traffic red-yellow-green signal instruments.

Crews were putting up signs Tuesday, hanging tent posts, and marking the spots where vendors would sell their wares - all in preparation of the Monmouth County fair.

In the past several days, the East Freehold Park Showgrounds have been abuzz - circus-style tents and amusement rides sprouting, green-shirted Monmouth County Park System employees scurrying about.

A summer tradition, the 114th Monmouth County Horse Show, will take place beginning August 12.
