Congratulations and thank you to Monrovia officials for being proactive and willing to cooperate in such an unselfish manner for the benefit of the entire region. Unlike city officials from a neighboring city who were unwilling to make tough decisions and used the opportunity to grandstand - Monrovia understands that enough is enough with playing nonsense politics. Once again thank you to City Manager Scott Ochoa and the entire Monrovia City Council.

What opposition, this handfull of people doesn't seem to represent much. The site in Irwindale is an industrial eyesore now, and the rail yard would be a clean, landscaped facility? There is no access issue at the Irwindale site, there is already rail access. Fasana has been pretty useless on this issue, too. Monrovia apparently understands jobs, in a depression, Duarte doesn't.

This is getting so silly, South Pasadena does not want the 710/210 extention along with Glendale
and for years we been fighting that now we are having this problem with the Goldline. Come on folks no matter where the Goldline goes we need a east bound MTA metrorail to serve the san gabriel valley. When the completion of the 210 ended the all the towns got new merchants and money rolled in, not to say LA County Fairplex has more events. Everything is on the west side of Los Angeles but many don't know the east san gabriel valley has just as much places to shop and and fun we need the Goldline completed to San Bernardino no matter where the rail yard will be. |

I see quite a few signs in yards protesting this rail yard.

Yeah well I live just a few houses away from the tracks and no one has knocked on my door in all the time this has been coming on. As A matter of fact until about a year ago I wasn't aware it was a real possiblility. If they asked me, I'd let them know that this would be either a major life inconvenience or an extreme financial hardship. But all of those "saintly" Monrovian officials don't really care about that. Those of you who think it's bringing in money aren't thinking about the residents either. You know, the people who actually live, breath, pay taxes and raise children in Monrovia.

There will always be nymbys in these kind of situation.
Some nymbys will use all means, including scare tactics to attain their "must win mentality", even at the expense of the full truth. The Fasana MTA motion started the ball rolling so we could have the Gold Line extension in the foothills. He must be a good poker player in order to get the attention of Villaraigoza-dominated MTA Board to throw some bones to our area. As usual, Monrovia demonstrated its trademark leadership visionary approach to improve the quality of life and air in the foothills, while the nimbys of Duarte and the Irwindale politicians can keep that eyesore near 605/210 junction for themselves for a long time. Good job Mr. Fasana and Mr. Ochoa. |

I love the Duarte people wanting to keep Mt Olice Storage with all the junk there and not look forward to the train coming, idiots.
|
||||
I live breath and pay taxes in Monrovia and I say bring it on. |

Sounds like a good thing for that city.
|
||||
|
If it brings in more money, then that is great. Just keep on eye on the politicians so they keep their word and the money goes into the city for good things, not new cars for politicians, new office furniture, massages and hookers.

Judged:
1 A train yard is a far cry from the warm fuzzy quaint train depot atmosphere originally envisioned and foisted on Monrovians. If you believe this further development, in conjunction with the cookie cutter apartments being flung up on Myrtle, improves that quality of life in Monrovia, then you just just don't get it. Ochoa is in the pockets of the building/ redevelopment industry, it seems the the city council is in Ochoa's. Sad really. |

It seems that Sir...Rat sees the glass half-empty all the time. Think positive from time to time and your imagination will lead you to better reality in your life. So easy to allege things. Prove your accusation and defamation of Mr. Ochoa's character or shut-up. |

Again another expanded opportunity for the city, with the potential to draw development, traffic, money and growth. But as The Plan has evolved and developed....what is missing here is the concious promise of the city council to build a park (acres not postage stamp sized) for Southern Monrovia. No green play and leisure space in incorporated Southern Monrovia, is a long overdue good economy/bad economy "suggestion"....but never acted upon.....add this to the developers' requirement to perform COUNCIL. Acknowledge the need, the promise that the City Council made (IN 1956) to provide parks for the South. If not now----never, this underserved geographically targeted part of Monrovia that houses many of our Monrovians deserve convenient park space too. Don't, Won't, Can't are contractions that are a contradiction to a truly progressive and caring community. If not now........

I love how people who would only see the benefits of a rail maintenance yard (namely the Gold Line coming) are so hypocritically judgemental of those who would only see a negative impact from a rail maintenance yard (namely bc they LIVE next to the proposed site).
Morons like the Arcadia fool "Truth in News". |

Yes the rail will bring more people to Monrovia, Yes the rail will put us on the map.. But at what cost? The cost of those homes along Mayflower, Magnolia, Diamond, Evergreen, Duarte or California losing value? Those homes and those who travel those roads being impacted every 7 minutes and potentially late for work? Has one sat on Myrtle backed up from the 210 to Duarte lately, and we want to increase traffic?? Or lets not forget the kids.. We worry our hearts out with the gangs, we worry about possible pedophiles, but yet we are willing to BRING more possible foot and car traffic to the routes our kids walk to school? Or do we forget that students use these routes to MHS, Santa Fe, First Lutheran, and bus stops for Wild Rose and Braddoaks.. Lets put case scenario.. 13 year old girls walking under the bridge at Magnolia at 4pm after staying after school.. The traffic is backed up because the rail is coming. There are car full of possible pedophiles, whistlers, solicitors, or just extra transients on foot. The girls are uncomfortable. Is my scenario that far fetched? I suggest to anyone to walk any of these routes from Duarte Road to the HS in the eyes of a teenage girl.. Or wait, should we not feel safe enough to let our kids walk? If it's not safe, then this is not an All American City to raise children.. Can't have it both ways..

WTF is wrong with the Miller Brewing site?!
Why is ANYONE considering putting this next to homes when there are sites that are not near any homes or schools? Are we that damn stupid and disparate? We can bring the Gold Line in a more responsible fashion. |
