Cashmere fire briefly closes Highway 2/97
Highway 2/97 just east of Cashmere was closed for about 30 minutes as a brush fire raged along a narrow strip of land between the highway and Mt.

Burn ban on state-protected lands in E. Washington
The Department of Natural Resources has banned fires on state-protected lands in Eastern Washington.
Wash. woman drowns trying to save her dog; dog OK
The dog made its way to shore and survived. Sheriff Brian Burnett says a male friend of Sabra Crafton told dispatchers he tried to reach her when she began to struggle in the water at a public fishing hole east of Dryden.
