Report: Airport plan may not fly
A proposed $1.6 billion cargo airport proposed near Hazleton would not be used by major carriers FedEx, UPS or DHL and would require the state to spend $25 million to $35 million on improvements to Interstate 81, a state legislative panel was told Wednesday.
That information emerged at a meeting of the joint Legislative and Budget Finance Committee, where the project, whose leaders are seeking $250 million in tax money, was met with skepticism from some lawmakers after findings of a 123-page report on the massive project's feasibility were revealed.
