Backers - and detractors - of a proposed consolidation of the cities of Saugatuck and Douglas are preparing for a vote on the long-discussed issue after the State Boundary Commission recently ruled a referendum could move forward.

Soon people living in the lakeshore cities of Saugatuck and Douglas will vote on a proposed merger of their local governments.

Saugatuck and Douglas residents could vote as soon as early August on a proposal for the two communities to merge.

Members of the Consolidated Government are getting their campaign in gear to get the voters of Saugatuck and Douglas to vote for merger of the two cities.

Efforts to have a ballot initiative pass in Saugatuck and Douglas to merge the two cities into a single governmental entity will be disclosed in a press briefing this afternoon.
