No, Im just sick of more gov intrusion and extortion. Please, do you really think it's about preventing accidents? It's about revenue. How can you "think" ( of course this is what our controllers want you to believe )that a few "officers" are there to catch the "drunks" who *might**commit* a *future* crime. Do you see the fallacy in this? Are we to arrest all the what ifs in society? How has there been a crime if no-one has been harmed? Even if you could do this, it is not possible for the enforcers to catch all so-called law breakers! Do you really think they get everyone leaving the bar intoxicated? How many "officers" do they have vrs the rest of the population? Just by this alone, you should see it for what it is, EXTORTION. If not, they would have enough enforcers to take care of deemed problem. But on the other hand, that would eliminate the problem ie no one going to said bars, thus, no revenue generation for our owners. Look at the "laws" ( actually they're statutes and codes ) If our "laws" bend thru reductions of sentences, then the law is without merit. If a law can be bent, it is without merit. They have to do this to keep the revenue coming in and rooms available for extortion purposes. Not to mention they can't lock everyone up, then who would they extort from?

So, your point is....The revenue brought in by tickets and fines makes the said "safety issues" a moot point with dirty money? It's "okay" that people leave the bar drunk because "everyone does it" and only a few "get caught"? Not real sure of your point here, maybe you could come up with something better than "it's extortion", because all I'm getting from that is "I could have paid $40 for a fire extinguisher, but I didn't and now I have to pay $150 in fines"

No I guess everyone who has a few beers is criminal regaurdless, even if no crime has been committed right? Let's go on what if's. Everyone is suspect, they might commit a crime or a crime might be produced from said actions, right? Ludicrous! Your going to use force against me for my own good right? It's like being robbed to pay for ones safety! Trying to justify cohersion and the use of force for one's own good is a sickness. Yeah, it is dirty money, because it's extortion made acceptable by stupid laws impossible to enforce for extortion purposes! Do you know how many people leave bars intoxicated? Why don't they have enough "enforcers" to catch all of them? After all, they're wanting to ensure your safety right? You have to wear your head gear if you ride you're motorcycle, because it's for you're own good. Meanwhile we kill thousands of babies a day in this country. But hey that's not politically correct to talk about is it! They don't care about you're safety! You have two options in this system, become an enforcer or remain a slave.

It is cheaper to have safety equipment than the fines + you are protection your loved ones.

they can't afford enough "enforcers" around here to catch all of them

they have to keep some people safe because some people do not have any common sense. on the other hand, people with common sense will always put their kids in lifejackets and have fire safety gear in their boat. the water patrol are good people. if you arent doing anything wrong why worry? be happy these people are there to help us in time of need.

okay, back to the original point. my question is, have the laws changed in the last 20 -30 years about what equiptment you have to have? i've been running the river for awhile now. it was always, life jacket for each person in the boat, a throwable device (boat cushion),fire extinguisher if you're over 16 foot or are running an inboard, a sounding device (i always just had a whistle on board) and your registration. maybe it's changed but it was that way for years. is it different now?
No |
thanks. i hadn't heard about them changing but i wasn't sure. people, if you're griping about those rules, sorry, that's the same way it's always been and i was running the river before we ever had a water patrol. |
omg. i just now read the news story that this thread started out with. it said almost exactly what i was saying. those have been the rules forever. hey, i'm not saying that i agree or disagree but it's always been that way. not sure but i may have got a ticket for one of those 20-30 years ago.
