What is going on in my home town, its not right when an individual can't speak their mind or voice their opinions in public and get arrested because the Mayor does not agreed with their views, Dilley is not the place I remember as a child. We elect these public officials to move our community towards a positive direction but all I hear are negative stories and rumor.

Amen, Tina and then to be taken to jail and not charged or read your rights. Can you say civil rights violation.

What is going on in your home town has nothing to do with people being able to "voice their opinion or views." The mayor did not kick him out because of his opinion's. If you read the article, you would have noticed that... "The mayor repeatedly asked Alvarez to calm down, Vasquez said, and when he did not, Foster asked police to escort Alvarez out of council chambers." Like I said before, it had nothing to do with Alvarez's opinion. He was escorted out of the meeting, because he could not conduct a civil conversation like an adult. The "negative stories" you hear are not due in part to the mayor. Please get your facts straight before you post heinous comments online for the world to see.

Wrong!!!first of all Alvarez was arrested not just escorted out of the meeting. He was not even standing in his face or screaming as Vasquez told the paper. It seems to me that Foster was also just as upset. why didn't someone "escort" him out of the building? Alvarez and Foster were debating on an issue. Isn't that what is done at these council meetings? That was abuse of power!! I'll tell u what if that is not a form of intimidation I don't know what is! All it tells me is that no one can speak up agains his issues or they will be tossed in Jail. I think that Foster couldn't handle what Rudy had to say and that is why he had him arrested. Also the minute a citizen spoke up against Romo he was practically interogated by Romo. So that scares me as a citizen of this town. Is that the way Romo and his posse treat everyone? Not everyone in this town is a criminal-but these Robocops seem to think so. Way to go Alvarez!!! Keep up the good work. Because YOU represent what I beleive is good for this town. You aren't going to let anyone intimidate you for standing up for what you beleive is right. Don't let Romo have all the power in the police department because that scares me more than anything!

you have to understand why the heated discussion came up in the first place. The mayor was proposing to have a comitee formed to decide what would be on the agenda of the council meetings which is currently decided by the council, if they have a topic to discuss they ask to place it on the agenda. The new comittee was to made up of Chief Romo (wonder why), Esmeralda Cano (chiefs crony and maybe then some), and the mayor. Both Mr. Alvarez (18 year member of the council) and Mr. Aranda were opposed. Also in the previous agenda item was to give all hiring power to the heads of the departments IE the chief wants the control. Now the real reason that Mr. Romo is huffing is his planned run for County Sherriff. Secondly I believe that Mr. Alvarez was set up and that the removal and subsequent false charge of distrubting a public meeting was planned so that Mr. Romo would not face repremand, not for talking to the media but for insinuating that council members were protecting their friends and families from police intervention, meaning that he claims that the councils friends and relatives are criminals, That in itself is slanderous. In the real world if you talk like that to your boss something happens.

Then there is the charge of Disrubting a public meeting, you know they dug that on out of the offense code. And what about not charging him but just dropping him off at the jail no paper work was filed and the didn't even read Mr. Alvarez his rights. Something is going on with that. Secondly Romo himself contacted the Texas Rangers to investigate why Mr. Alvarez was not held. The rangers should investigate Romo. Then he states to the media that they would be issuesing a warrant for his arrest I don't believe that it is even an arrestable offense.

The reason that Alvarez was thrown out of the meeting. Is due to his foul language. The reason he was arrested, was because of his lack of ability of not taking orders properly. He was kindly asked to remove himself by Mayor R. Foster. And would not comply with the mayor. Then the mayor asked D.P.D. to please escort Mr. Alvarez out of the city council meeting. When he did not comply with the Police Officers, he was then placed under arrest for disrupting the city meeting. If Mr.Alvarez would've complied with the officers, he would of just been escorted out of the meeting and left alone. But he was arrested for his own childish behavior. By his foul language in the past meetings, I fell that mayor Foster did the right and justice thing. $^^THE GUNMAN^^$

Rene Alvarez did not work for city, he was a reserve office who volunteered alot of hours to the city for many years, along with other reserves. Whom all left after Romo took over. Romo wanted to tell them when and how often to work. Hello they were volunteers.

That is the stupidist thing i've ever heard. Where to you people get this crap from? Rene Alvarez worked as a volunteer officer for many years. He paid a service to the community. You people are a bunch of ingrates. He was actually saving the city money if that even matters to you. The one who needs to grow up is you-for making up such idiotic lies. You have nothing better to say so U make up crap. Goes to show what Romo's supporters r made up of

To El Flaco,
you are showing your stupidity. How can my brother be upset that I did not get the Chief's Job when I did not even apply for it nor could I because of nepotism Laws. I posted my name because everyone who knows me knows that I have never been afraid to tell anyone what I think. So if you grow some balls post your name or come to my house and tell it to my face. Not being afraid to voice our opinion and stand by it runs in the family. For all you so called police supporters why don't you get a peace officers license instead of being wannabes. I did it for 14 years for the City of Dilley.

Did any one read the express news today. Who did they interview? Tim Brown...He doesn't even live in the Dilley!!! What the hell??? Vasquez....he told the paper Mr. Alvarez was resisting arrest-another lie. Then he also stated that he was charged. with what???? He wasn't charged with anything. He was just given an uncomfortable ride to Pearsall. But that was about it. Mr Alvarez should sue the paper and the city for slander. Doesn't the media have a responsiblity to check out the facts? That is so sad that they have abused their positions to give this man a hard time..so sad.

Rene,
I totally agree with you. This person doesn't have the balls to post his real name. I miss all the reservists that used to work here in Dilley. That was back in the day of Santos Martinez, who also did a good job for the City of Dilley. Thank you all for serving our community. Wish we could have those days back!!

Where is the respect for the city council? Used to be a time when the city council was seen as people who should be respected because after all they r ur bosses. The lack of respect is what bothers me.

it's people like Romo who feel they shouldn't have to answer to anyone who starts with all the disrespect. Most of us all have to answer to someone in our jobs

I will opening admit that I didn't attend the meeting, but I did see the news video. The truth is as follows: Alvarez and Foster got in a heated discussion, Alvarez was asked to refrain from speaking so they could continue with the agenda, I don't know that Alvarez was cursing, but he didn't stop speaking. At that moment, Alvarez was asked to leave since he wouldn't stop and then the police were asked to escort him out. Then, the police were told to arrest him for not wanting to leave the public meeting. Now, he did not resist arrest and it doesn't state that he did in any of the news videos or the SA newspapers. He was arrested for being in a public place and not quieting down when he did. Lawfully, he was treated that way because civilized people in a PUBLIC meeting need to keep from raising their voices and not start up Chaos. Do I think everything was handled properly? NO! And that is my response for both sides, but what is done is done. The problem that our city now faces is that they are going to keep all of this stuff at a petty level and it now becomes a grudge for both sides. When discussing the city dilemma, to pick a side on this is just picking the lesser of two evils. I do not agree that we have the most efficient Police Officers. I personally know that they have a history and we are dealing with vigilante officers. However, our city council needs to step up and begin moving toward growth in this city. We are a small town and we are slowing dissipating, or disappearing. How do we expect to have a decent police department when we can't afford any better than the ex-officers from other cities. I believe we should strive for growth and capital. It would be a struggle, but I can honestly say that Dilley is loaded with good people who are just sitting back and not doing anything because we are caught in the middle of the money hungry and the power hungry.
